Welcome Home!
We’re more than Canada’s largest independent hardware and building supplies retailer—we’re part of communities across the nation.
Shape the Technology Solutions Behind Home’s Success
As a Solution Architect, you will design integrated, scalable, and sustainable technology solutions that support Home Hardware’s operations across Retail, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, and more. You will help ensure systems and platforms work together effectively, aligning solutions with Home’s technology strategy, architecture standards, and IT operating model.
You’ll collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams, and architects across the organization to design solutions that balance feasibility, cost, integration complexity, service impacts, and long-term value, and support delivery teams to ensure solutions are implemented as designed. Led by the Manager, IT Business Solutions, this opportunity suits a collaborative and strategic technology professional who enjoys big-picture thinking, solving complex system challenges, and partnering with business and IT teams to design scalable, business-aligned solutions.
Ready to make an impact in a new role? Here’s how:
- Lead solution design for initiatives across Home Hardware’s technology landscape, ensuring alignment with technology strategy, architecture standards, and operating model practices.
- Design sustainable, cost-effective solutions based on business requirements, industry research, and technology best practices.
- Ensure solutions leverage existing technology investments while supporting modernization, lifecycle management, cloud adoption, and long-term scalability.
- Provide architectural leadership across multiple domains, guiding teams through design decisions, integration patterns, and cross system dependencies.
- Support delivery teams throughout the SDLC, ensuring solution designs are understood, feasible, and implemented as intended.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of architecture guidelines, patterns, and technology governance processes.
- Conduct research on emerging technologies and industry trends to inform solution design and support roadmap planning.
- Contribute to multiyear technology roadmaps by identifying dependencies, risks, upgrade paths, and modernization opportunities across applications, integrations, and infrastructure.
- Ensure solutions incorporate infrastructure, security, privacy, and compliance requirements, working closely with domain experts in those areas.
- Contribute to the definition and tracking of architecture related KPIs and metrics, including system performance, stability, integration health, and technical debt.
- Validate solution implementation from discovery through production, ensuring adherence to architectural intent, integration requirements, and service management practices.
- Partner with business stakeholders, business analysts and architects, technical teams, and vendors to evaluate requirements and design integrated, end to end solutions.
- Support enterprise platforms including Azure, Dynamics 365, Manhattan, CRM, Finance & Operations, and other mission critical systems.
- Ensure solutions account for integration, scalability, security, performance, usability, and service impacts across Home Hardware’s technology ecosystem.
We’re looking for:
- A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of eight years of experience in solution architecture or solution design; experience in Retail technology environments is an asset.
- Relevant architecture or cloud certifications that demonstrate knowledge of solution design, integration patterns, and technology governance.
- Strong understanding of enterprise systems, applications, integrations, and networks, with the ability to design solutions that balance performance, usability, scalability, and cost.
- Expertise in cloud platforms, integration patterns, and enterprise application ecosystems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels – from technical teams and business areas to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills, with strong planning and prioritization capabilities.
- Ability to navigate complex environments with both modern and legacy applications, understanding how systems interact and exchange information.
- Adaptability, sound judgment, and confidence in handling complex situations.
- Ability to work additional or varied hours as required.
- The ability to be onsite three days a week at our corporate office in St. Jacobs, to accommodate our hybrid working model.
