At MDT, we pride ourselves on working hard, enjoying what we do, and exceeding our customers’ expectations. As our content team continues to grow, we are looking for a talented Video Editor who can help us create entertaining, high-performing content across YouTube and social media.

Description

As a Video Editor at MDT, you will edit both long-form YouTube videos and short-form content for platforms including YouTube Shorts, Instagram, and Facebook.

You will work closely with our content team to transform raw footage into engaging videos that are entertaining, informative, and aligned with the MDT brand. The ideal candidate understands that good editing is about more than making clean cuts; it’s about using pacing, timing, and purposeful visuals to tell the story and keep the viewer engaged.

You should have a strong instinct for pacing, comedic timing, storytelling, and visual variety, along with an understanding of what makes content successful on YouTube and social media.

Responsibilities

  • Edit long-form YouTube videos from raw footage to final delivery
  • Edit short-form videos for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Facebook, and other platforms
  • Build engaging openings, transitions, and story structures
  • Select the strongest moments from large amounts of raw footage
  • Incorporate B-roll, music, sound effects, graphics, and other visual elements
  • Repurpose long-form content into compelling short-form videos
  • Work with the content team to develop the creative direction of each edit
  • Maintain organized project files and an efficient editing workflow
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Make revisions based on feedback while also bringing your own creative ideas to the edit

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional video editing experience
  • Experience editing both long-form and short-form content
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or similar professional editing software
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating your editing ability
  • Understanding of YouTube and social media content
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Core Qualifications

  • Strong sense of pacing and comedic timing
  • Ability to recognize and build around the strongest moments in footage
  • Good understanding of YouTube audience retention and what keeps viewers watching
  • Strong storytelling instincts
  • Good eye for visual composition and when to use B-roll, graphics, effects, or other elements
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly with audio and continuity
  • Ability to adapt your editing style to different types of content and personalities
  • Comfortable working with large amounts of raw footage
  • Able to take creative direction while contributing your own ideas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience editing for an established YouTube channel or creator
  • Experience working with outdoor, hunting, shooting, sporting goods, or other enthusiast-focused content
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects or other motion graphics software
  • Experience with color correction and audio mixing
  • Familiarity with YouTube Analytics and audience retention data
  • Experience collaborating with thumbnail designers
  • A strong personal interest in YouTube and online video
  • A portfolio that demonstrates creative editing decisions and not just technical proficiency

Work Location
