Pastry Chef

Full-Time | Monday to Saturday | Varied Schedule

Jeffrey's Café Co. is seeking an experienced and passionate Pastry Chef to lead our pastry department. This is a leadership position for someone who thrives on creativity, takes pride in producing exceptional products, and enjoys developing a high-performing team.

As our Pastry Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of pastry production while leading, coaching, and inspiring the pastry team. You will have the opportunity to create new menu items, refine existing recipes, improve production systems, and ensure every product leaving the kitchen reflects the quality Jeffrey's Café is known for.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop the pastry team.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
  • Schedule staff and manage labour to meet business needs.
  • Conduct training, performance coaching, and ongoing skill development.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and evaluating team members.
  • Ensure all company policies, procedures, and food safety standards are followed.
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Chef, Kitchen Manager, and leadership team to achieve operational goals.

Pastry Production

  • Oversee the daily production of pastries, desserts, breads, cakes, and specialty baked goods.
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation across all products.
  • Maintain efficient production schedules to meet café and catering demands.
  • Monitor inventory and assist with ordering ingredients and supplies.
  • Minimize waste while maintaining product quality.

Innovation & Menu Development

  • Develop new pastries, desserts, and seasonal features.
  • Evaluate and improve existing recipes for quality, consistency, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Introduce innovative products that align with Jeffrey's Café's brand and customer expectations.
  • Stay current with pastry trends and bring fresh ideas to the business.

Quality & Operations

  • Maintain exceptional food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure all recipes are accurately documented and followed.
  • Monitor product costs and contribute to food cost management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, production efficiency, and overall department performance.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone with:

  • Minimum 4 years of professional pastry experience, or completion of a recognized Culinary or Pastry Arts program with relevant industry experience.
  • Previous experience in a management or supervisory role within a bakery, café, restaurant, or hotel.
  • Demonstrated success leading, motivating, and developing a pastry team.
  • Strong experience with recipe development, recipe costing, and product innovation.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional quality.
  • Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain).
