Octo Engineering Inc. is a growing multidisciplinary engineering firm providing structural, civil, geotechnical, forestry, and materials testing throughout British Columbia. We are committed to delivering practical, cost-effective engineering solutions while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and client service.

We are currently seeking an experienced Professional Structural Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our growing team.

Position Summary

As a Structural Engineer (P.Eng.), you will be responsible for the design, analysis, review, and field inspection of a wide range of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. You will work closely with clients, contractors, municipalities, and internal staff to deliver high-quality engineering services from project inception through construction.

Responsibilities

  • Design structural systems for wood, steel, concrete, and masonry buildings.
  • Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations in accordance with the BC Building Code and applicable CSA standards.
  • Prepare and review structural drawings, specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Review drawings prepared by designers and EITs.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Conduct site inspections and field reviews.
  • Prepare Field Review Reports and Schedule C-B documents.
  • Prepare and seal engineering drawings, reports, and Schedule B documents.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, developers, municipalities, and other consultants.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide construction support.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with EGBC Professional Practice Guidelines and Quality Management requirements.
  • Participate in internal independent reviews and quality assurance processes.
  • Travel to project sites throughout British Columbia as required.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered and in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of structural design experience in Canada.
  • Strong knowledge of the BC Building Code, CSA standards, and Canadian engineering practices.
  • Experience with residential, commercial, and industrial structural projects.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit is considered an asset.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence (or equivalent).
  • Ability to travel for field inspections.

Pay: $83,200.00-$95,000.00 per year
