General Description:

The Medical Education Director role is a high visibility customer facing role that is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and executing education programs designed to enhance the learnings of healthcare professionals (HCPs) in Hematology & Oncology.

The ability to use strategic insights/learnings to leverage state-of-the-art learning techniques/technologies to deliver engaging, interactive, and innovative programs will be critical to success in this role.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced medical education person who is eager to solve problems and serve as a procedural and education subject matter expert and to effectively work with cross functional partners to support safe patient outcomes and market success.

As a leader in the organization, the Medical Education Director will also contribute to the development of National and Regional Plans as well as strategies to support enduring and compliant relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and HCPs in support of identified therapeutic areas of interest. This position will require pre-launch and post-launch Medical Affairs support for the hematology/oncology areas. The incumbent will work closely with internal colleagues in medical affairs, clinical development, program leadership, marketing, sales, value and access, legal, compliance, new product planning, safety/pharmacovigilance, molecular diagnostics, translational research and other cross-functional business partners.

This position reports to the Country Medical Director, Canada, who in turn reports to the VP of North American Medical Affairs.

Essential Functions of the job:
  • Provide strategic direction and support the successful development of National Medical Education plans including virtual, on-demand and live learning activities based on customer insights and learning needs identified within the hematology/oncology areas.
  • Define best approach and tools for delivery of educational content (speaker tours, symposium, didactic, interactive, simulation, webinars, digital tools, etc.) based on customer insights, a thorough needs assessment and close collaboration with cross-functional team members.
  • Utilize adult learning principles and leverage appropriate tools to support interactive learning opportunities and maximize impact in the digital learning environment.
  • Develop strong relationships with key regional, national and international KOLs to support regional and national learning activities.
  • Attend/participate in major conferences (National and International) and engage KOLs to keep abreast of trends, developments and technologies and incorporate learnings into educational programs as appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of scientific literature/clinical data related to hematology/oncology and translate relevant data into applicable tactics for knowledge transfer to health care professionals.
  • Facilitate meetings with HCP’s, consultants, and internal stakeholders to optimize procedural outcomes and best practice development within the Canadian environment.
  • Assess, on an ongoing basis, regional learning needs to ensure activities are tailored to individual customer knowledge, attitude, and skill gaps.
  • Support the implementation of Regional Medical Education plans by providing strategic direction and assisting with team coordination in Medical Education programs that maximize internal and external engagement.
  • Facilitate and coordinate National and select Regional Canadian medial education event logistics
  • Critically evaluate educational event outcomes and metrics to measure event effectiveness with the goal of delivering continuous quality improvement and improved patient outcomes
  • Be accountable for, and ensure all programs align with BeiGene Business Conduct Standards and Compliance and support business objectives.
  • Support Medical Affairs budget planning and management including vendor management.
Education Required:
  • Post-secondary education within a clinical and/or scientific profession (or an equivalent level of professional, clinical and/or scientific education, training and experience). MD, PharmD., or PhD preferred but not required.
Required Qualifications:
  • BS with 10 plus years or an Advanced degree (MS, PhD, PharmD, MD) with 8 plus years of overall experience designing and developing educational programs for health care professionals within other biotech/pharmaceutical companies.
  • 5 plus years of experience in hematology/oncology strongly preferred; candidates with exceptional experience in other related therapeutic areas (i.e. immunology) may be considered if they demonstrate clear potential to apply their existing skills to oncology.
  • Clinical research experience is preferred. Knowledge of applicable treatment, compliance, and regulatory guidelines
  • High level of communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, and cross functional collaboration skills.
