**NOTE: Previous experience in a veterinary setting is MANDATORY.

THE JOB DESCRIPTION:

The skills that you will be utilizing include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce radiographs and collect samples as required.
  • Taking initial TPR and medical history of patients for appointments.
  • Taking patient history and providing patient care to hospitalized patients.
  • Perform catheter placement, routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry.
  • Perform blood/urine collection and laboratory tests to assist in diagnosis of animal health problems.
  • Assist veterinarian with animals before, during and following surgery by preparing surgical equipment, administering, anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery as well as cleaning up after surgery.
  • Prepare medications and vaccines under direction of a veterinarian.
  • Educate and advise clients on animal health care including nutrition and home care.
  • Perform nail trimming and minor grooming procedures.
  • Ensures that all kennels are cleaned, disinfected and properly maintained with clean bedding for patients.
  • Facilitates admissions including data entry of client/patient information and receipt of deposits. Upon discharge of patients, may be required to take final payment. Answers phones calls when needed while other staff person is busy assisting the clients in the reception-area.
  • When needed, ensures that all supply orders are unpacked, inventory placed in designated storage areas and that all invoices are delivered appropriately.
  • Organizing and maintaining the supply-on-hand and finalizing the order for hospital supplies.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid Registered Veterinary Technician Diploma is an asset
  • A dedicated, organized, hard-working individual with passion
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Extremely empathetic and patient with pets and owners
  • Friendly, responsible and reliable team-player
  • Strong customer service and care
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills
  • A desire to improve their current skills as well as learn new ones

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Veterinary Technicians is an asset
  • Demonstrated skills, experience and training that would qualify the individual for a position of responsibility.
  • Must have 1-2 years of experience working in the veterinary industry or equivalent related experience in an emergency hospital, and/or completion of the RVT program is preferred
