Registered Veterinary Technologist, RVT

Hospital: Vancouver Animal Wellness Hospital
Location: 105 E Broadway, Vancouver, BC, V5T 1W1 (Mount Pleasant)
Job Classification: Full-Time 30 hours
Type of Veterinary Medicine: Traditional, Integrative, and Alternative Wellness Approach
Compensation: $24.00 to $38.00 per hour (depending on experience)

We are looking for a passionate, skilled, and forward-thinking Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) to join our close-knit team. Whether you are an experienced technologist looking to expand your skills into alternative therapies or a motivated new graduate eager to learn, we welcome your application!

  • Anesthesia & Surgery Support: Confidently monitoring anesthesia, performing drug and nutritional calculations, troubleshooting anesthesia machines/monitoring equipment, and assisting in general surgery and dentistry.

  • Patient Care & Nursing: Providing exceptional, low-stress nursing care to stable and recovering patients.

  • Technical Procedures: Performing venipuncture, placing peripheral intravenous catheters, taking digital diagnostic radiographs, and running in-house laboratory diagnostics.

  • Patient Assessment: Performing thorough physical exams (monitoring vitals, heart/pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, and respiratory effort) and recognizing normal vs. abnormal parameters.

  • Integrative Modality Support: Supporting and assisting with alternative treatments (such as cold laser therapy, acupuncture sessions, and rehabilitation therapies) under veterinarian guidance.

  • Client Communication: Compassionately educating clients on preventative care, post-operative instructions, nutritional guidance, and treatment plans.

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Credential: Graduation from an accredited Registered Veterinary Technologist/Technician program and eligibility for registration with the BCVTA.

  • Interest in Integrative Medicine: A strong interest or curiosity in alternative modalities (acupuncture, herbs, rehabilitation, etc.) is highly preferred.

  • Technical Confidence: Confident in anesthesia monitoring, IV catheter placement, blood collection, and dosage calculations.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong critical thinking abilities and a knack for troubleshooting equipment or adapting to dynamic clinical situations.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. A positive, collaborative attitude and the ability to thrive under pressure.

  • Compassionate Mindset: A dedication to fear-free handling and maintaining a gentle, stress-free environment for our patients.
