Animal Medical Hospital (AMH) and Animal Medical Clinic on Georgia (AMC) are privately owned small animal clinics. AMC is a part-time outpatient practice downtown, and AMH is the "big sister" hospital that does the bulk of the diagnostics and surgical work. We have 3 veterinarians between the two locations. The staff here are professional but friendly and fun to work with - not much drama in this place. The employers are responsive to staff needs, support their staff, and will not allow clients to bully or abuse them.

Applicant qualifications:

• Must be registered with the BCVTA or eligible for registration (hold a degree in veterinary technology, or equivalent).
• If you do not currently have a degree but are interested in working while doing distance education, we are interested in talking with you. We have sponsored several students at Thompson Rivers University and assisted them in obtaining their degrees, and currently sponsor a Douglas College. If you would like to work at a rewarding job while taking your veterinary technology diploma course, talk to us.
• Previous experience is great but is not a requirement. We'll take you as you are, new grad and all, and hopefully teach you more. We are looking for someone who wants a long term placement, so we are willing to invest time and expertise in your development.
• Liking computers is a requirement. We use them for everything, and being a reasonably good "typist" and knowing how to mouse around quickly between programs and apps in Windows is pretty important. If you are familiar with Ezyvet, that's great.

We utilize a lot of technology. Records are computer-based (Ezyvet), as is appointment scheduling. Reminders are sent by text, as are most followup inquiries. Clients can contact us by phone, email, or text.

We expect all of our staff, whether receptionists, assistants, or RVTs, to be able to answer phones and deal with clients when things are busy. We believe in working as a team to get the job done, no matter what it is; we're too small for divas.

That said, in this practice only RVTs registered in the BCVTA (or those actively learning these skills in distance education) are allowed to perform RVT duties. Our RVTs have wide latitude to use their training and expertise to good effect. Our RVTs are in charge of anesthesia (induction, intubation, monitoring), dental radiology, dental hygiene, charting, surgical prep, radiology, obtaining lab samples, client education, fluid therapy, nursing care, inventory, ordering, etc.

A typical day will see you running anesthesia for surgery and doing dentistry in the mornings and overseeing discharges and patient care in the afternoons. You might need to formulate a weight loss plan for a fat dog, or devise a way to keep a sneaky Beagle from getting at his sutures. You just never know what the day will bring.
