Full job description

Montreal, Quebec Preclinical R&D testing laboratory is growing and requires a Canadian and Quebec licensed DVM Vet. You will be supervising the use and care of small laboratory animals. Studies include nonclinical toxicology, safety assessments done under GLP. Please note that veterinary medical care is an essential part of their animal welfare program.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee general health and well-being of research animals.
  • Do or be responsible for surgical procedures.
  • Peri - and post - surgical care and monitoring.
  • Able to be hands-on on an emergency basis if required.
  • Work with Study Directors to ensure animal health throughout studies.
  • Represent the company in meetings with The Canadian Council on Animal Care CCAC and its American counterpart AALAC (accredited with both for over 30 years).
  • Train and educate staff.
  • Serve on in-house animal care committee and help set animal welfare standards.
  • Help the company meet the 3Rs of ethical animal research – replacement, refinement, and reduction.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Canadian DVM degree preferred (accredited college of veterinary medicine).
  • Min 2 years working as vet.
  • Background working in lab animal medicine, pathology, toxicology, peri-operative care.
  • Eligible for or holding, Quebec OMVQ DVM license.
  • European licenses not acceptable.
  • Nice to have hospital research lab, animal facility, CRO, or pharma experience.

1. NAVLE North American Veterinary Licensing Exam.

2. In addition, to practice in the Province of QC, you must also pass the Ordre des Medecins Veterinaires du Quebec (OMVQ) exam. You can pass it temporarily in English but must pass it in French within 3 years. [So must become or be bilingual (French as one of the languages) or willing to learn French in order to pass the OMVQ QC licensing exam in French.]
