Location: We are seeking an experienced Stewarding Assistant Manager (Full-Time) for our Vancouver Convention Center, operating out of Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Compensation: $30.60 - $32.00 per hour
Sodexo Live! is the Official Supplier of Food and Beverage Services to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility hosts more than 500 events and welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the Province.
Principal Function:
The Assistant Manager is an integral member of the Culinary team. They are responsible for supporting the Stewarding Manager in managing primarily non-food production areas of the kitchen, to include the dish room, storage areas and other utility areas.
The Assistant Manager is responsible for cleanliness and sanitation within the kitchen, for maintenance of key equipment and for the inventory, storage, and distribution of the facility’s supply of banqueting items such as silver, china, glassware, and linen.
The Assistant Manager supports the Stewarding Manager in leading the Stewarding Department staff, for monitoring and organizing the flow of activity within the kitchen in a way that complements and supports quality food preparation and service.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Support overall food and beverage operations by participating as part of the Culinary Leadership Team; Help in managing the facility’s Stewarding function and its staff members.
- Ensure that standards for health, safety, cleanliness and sanitation are maintained throughout Stewarding areas.
- Control inventory, storage and distribution of supplies. Ensure Stewarding and Kitchen equipment is properly maintained.
- Ensure Stewarding and Kitchen equipment is properly maintained.
- Adhere to and train employees on MSDS and WHIMS guidelines, as well as PPE requirements. Ensure chemical cleaning products and solutions are used according to prescribed methods.
- Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required from time to time.
- Contribute to goal of making Sodexo Live! #1 in Event Hospitality and the #1 Employer of Choice through personal commitment and leading by example.
Qualifications/Skills:
- A minimum of 2 years of previous leadership experience within a diverse food and beverage environment, to include management of a large staff and focus on exceptional client and customer service.
- Previous venue catering/Stewarding experience and multi-site experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Initiative in identifying and resolving problems timely and effectively.
- Strong working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and general workplace safety standards with knowledge of Health Department requirements.
- Demonstrated success in interfacing with a variety of organizational functions and divisions to accomplish tasks.
- Ability to work shifts across 7-day opening hours, including mornings, days, evenings and weekends.
Other Requirements:
- Able to work effectively and safely while subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and excessive noise; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight; must be able to manoeuvre in an often tightly-quartered environment.
