Who We Are
At Grand & Toy, we're more than just a supplier, we're a trusted partner to businesses across Canada. With over a century of experience, we've built a legacy of delivering innovative solutions in office supplies, furniture, technology, cleaning products, and facility management. We strive to empower organizations by simplifying procurement, streamlining operations, and providing tailored solutions that drive success. We pride ourselves on exceptional service, sustainable practices, and creating value for businesses of all sizes.
As a leader in the industry, we're committed to fostering strong relationships, reducing costs, and helping our clients build smarter workplaces. Internally, that means building strong, respectful relationships with our people and our union partners, too.
About the Role
As a Labour Relations Specialist at Grand & Toy, you’ll be a key player in how we work with our coworkers and our union partners. You’ll operate at the intersection of people, operations, and the law, shaping how issues are managed, how agreements are reached, and how relationships are built.
Reporting to the Sr. HR Manager, you’ll partner closely across both unionized and non‑union environments, helping leaders navigate real‑time workplace issues, interpret collective agreements and policies, and address concerns before they escalate. A major focus of this role is supporting union‑facing work, including collective bargaining negotiations, grievance resolution, and building the structures and practices that support a fair, consistent, and collaborative labour relations environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support union negotiations & labour relations to build strong relationships with union representatives. You will participate in collective bargaining activities, including proposal development, costing analysis, bargaining preparation, negotiation strategy, and settlement administration, in a way that balances business needs and coworker interests.
- Be the go-to for labour & employee relations by acting as the first point of contact for leaders on performance issues, conflict, and policy questions across both unionized and non‑union teams, driving fair and consistent outcomes for both the organization and our coworkers.
- Own investigations & resolutions through leading and supporting workplace investigations to ensure confidentiality and compliance, and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations and actions.
- Keep us aligned with the law by staying on top of employment and labour legislation and partnering with People and Culture and Legal teams to keep our policies current, compliant, and easy for leaders to consistently apply.
- Build leader capabilities & culture by equipping leaders with the tools, training, and guidance they need to handle labour and employee relations confidently, while reinforcing a culture of respect, collaboration, accountability, and trust.
Who You Are
- Labour Relations Expert – Experienced in unionized environments with direct involvement in leading collective bargaining negotiations, managing grievances, and interpreting collective agreements.
- Legally Savvy – Solid working knowledge of Canadian labour, employment, and human rights legislation, with a practical, business‑oriented approach.
- Calm and Composed – Steady under pressure, using sound judgment and discretion in sensitive or complex situations.
- Trusted Partner – Builds credibility with leaders, employees, and union partners; able to influence outcomes through relationships and clear reasoning.
- Clear Communicator – Comfortable handling difficult conversations and explaining complex issues in straightforward language.
- Improvement‑Minded – Spots trends, anticipates issues, and looks for ways to improve processes and consistency.
Experience in a supply chain, distribution, or logistics environment is an asset and will help you quickly understand and support our operational teams.
