Haugen’s Chicken & Ribs is a true Ontario institution, proudly serving generations of customers since 1953. Located in Port Perry, we’re known for our classic comfort food, scratch-made recipes, and genuine hospitality. Featured on Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here, Haugen’s has become a destination for those who appreciate great food and tradition.

We’re looking for a Prep Cook to join our team and help continue the tradition that has made Haugen’s a local favourite for generations. The successful candidate will work alongside our kitchen team to prepare ingredients and complete daily production for our wholesale and restaurant operations. This position requires kitchen experience, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for daily kitchen and wholesale production, including chopping, cutting, portioning, seasoning, and marinating.
  • Follow recipes, preparation lists, and established food quality standards.
  • Assist with batch preparation and production of menu items.
  • Properly label, date, store, and rotate prepared food and ingredients.
  • Maintain organized, clean, and well-stocked prep areas.
  • Monitor food quality and freshness throughout preparation and storage.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety standards.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food deliveries as required.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels and communicate when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Work efficiently and collaboratively with the kitchen team.
  • Complete daily cleaning, sanitizing, and closing duties.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision when required.
  • Support the kitchen team with additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working in a restaurant or commercial kitchen.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and food safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Food Handler Certificate is an asset.
  • Previous experience with batch cooking or food production is an asset.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Starting at $18.00 per hour (based on experience), plus tip out
  • Full-time and part time opportunities available.
  • Flexible scheduling.
  • Weekday and weekend shifts available.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Port Perry, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
