Full job description

Watson’s Pharmacy & Compounding Centre (Watson’s) is an award-winning, local, family-owned pharmacy, proudly serving the Ottawa region for the past 19 years. With two locations in central Ottawa (Old Ottawa East and Wellington West), Watson’s has built a strong reputation for offering responsive customer service, sound health advice, and innovative products. At both locations, Watson’s has dedicated counselling and consultation space in its charming, light-filled pharmacies located on vibrant main streets. A hallmark of Watson’s health offerings are the professional compounding labs located within each pharmacy. Within these labs, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Assistants prepare customized medicines, often from original chemical formulations, based on the specific needs of hospitals, health professionals, veterinarians, and patients.

Watson’s is currently searching for a full-time or part-time Pharmacy Assistant who will work in both dispensaries and compounding labs at either location.

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will:

  • Utilize Kroll pharmacy software to assist with filling prescriptions, both for commercially available medicines and specially compounded medicines
  • Provide customer service both via phone and in person
  • Maintain a clean and orderly dispensary and compounding lab, following quality standards, policies, and regulations as set by Watson’s Pharmacy, the Ontario College of Pharmacists, and the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA)
  • Prepare non-sterile compounded medications (e.g. creams, ointments, suspensions, solutions, and capsules), including assisting with formula development, preparing the medicine, and packaging the final product
  • Assist in ordering, accepting, and inputting dispensary and laboratory stock
  • Assist in other aspects of pharmacy operations as required

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy setting preferred
  • Familiarity with a lab environment or experience working in a lab
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve technical challenges independently
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • A keen attention to detail
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada

The hourly pay for this position will be $18 - $20 depending on the skill level and experience of the candidate. As a full-time employee, you will be eligible to participate in Watson’s health benefits plan. Watson’s hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm and Saturday 9am-5pm (closed on Sundays).

The Watson’s team is friendly, positive, professional, and extremely proud of the service we provide to our clients and community. If you would like to be part of this team, please send in your resume and an accompanying cover letter through Indeed.

We thank all applicants for their interest. However, only those invited for an interview will be contacted. Please note that Watson's is committed to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner, and in a way that respects their dignity, independence, and rights of equal opportunity and access.
