Position Purpose:

This position contributes directly to the experience of medical students admitted under the aegis of the Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS) and, thus, coming from provinces other than Quebec and Ontario. The incumbent works with the clerkship director and the Francophone Affairs team to operationalize activities regarding clerkships, portfolio development, student engagement, reporting and activity promotion. The incumbent supports medicine program learners in their efforts to find clerkships in francophone minority settings across the country. As well, the incumbent organizes and assists with other activities related to French-language training and raising awareness of health-care offerings in French.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Operations

• Implements clerkship program portfolio and ensures processes, procedures and policies are formalized, to strengthen the clerkship program across the country.

• Develops tools and a database to list doctor-preceptors able to host learners for clerkships and ensures these tools are updated.

• Gathers and analyzes data to better understand where francophones are across the country and where the largest gaps are in terms of French-language medical services.

• Updates data on all clerkship activities for learners.

• Develops and provides progress reports on activities.

Coordination and planning

• Supports learners looking for clerkships in their home province or in other francophone minority settings across the country.

• Assists learners with the various clerkship requirements, including language requirements, as well as requirements of professional bodies (colleges of physicians) under which clerkships are taking place.

• Assists with faculty appointment of doctors hosting medicine program students at the University of Ottawa.

• Assists the clerkship director in determining preceptors for the clerkships.

Collaboration and partnership

• Ensures good communication between the uOttawa Faculty of Medicine and similar faculties across the country, as well as with the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada.

• Establishes, drafts and maintains agreements with universities across Canada that have medicine programs, to facilitate sending students for clerkships on “their” territory.

• Works with the uOttawa Undergraduate Medical Education and Postgraduate Medical Education Program teams for all clerkship-related work.

• Works with the Undergraduate Medical Education team to ensure that the clerkship management application is properly adapted to trainees’ needs.

• Works with the uOttawa branch of the Consortium national de formation en santé to run activities related to CNFS learners.

Community and outreach

• Seeks to create and maintain a strong sense of belonging on the part of CNFS learners regarding the French-language program and the CNFS.

• Develops means to create a community of CNFS alumni once their uOttawa program is over.

• Ensures links between the Faculty of Medicine and CNFS alumni, so that the latter can support our many activities and/or become our ambassadors throughout the country.

• Conducts or supports activities to raise awareness of future doctors and the population in general concerning the importance of health-care services in French and an active offer.

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in administration, management, health care or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

• Three years’ experience in a university, health-care or similar setting

• Bilingualism — proven ability to work in English and French (spoken and written)
