Position Overview

The BMLSc Graduate Teaching Assistant will support the coordination and administration of 1 - 2 courses per term in the BMLSc program and Department of Pathology. This could include one or a combination of a 200L course, and a 300L or 400L course.


GTA Duties

  • Guiding student groups through critical appraisal learning, discussions, presentations, and in-class activities.
  • Assisting faculty with planning, design and setup of learning resources and activities.
  • Teaching tutorials and/or lectures under supervision of faculty.
  • Providing academic assistance to students in office hours and communicating with students regularly throughout the term.
  • Attending lectures, tracking participation, and communicating with course instructors on a regular basis.
  • Marking tests, assignments, and reports using provided rubric.
  • Contributing to or assisting with other course of Program duties as needed and mutually agreed upon.


Qualifications Required:

  • Registered full-time student in a graduate program related to health sciences/medicine disciplines.
  • Education or work experience in health sciences.
  • Strong critical appraisal skills, excellent academic writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Priority is given to graduate students in the Department of Pathology and/or Faculty of Medicine.
  • Experience with analyzing health or biological data sets is a bonus.
  • Students can only hold one GTA position.
