Full job description

ACTRA (‘Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists’) is the national union of over 30,000 professional performers working in English-language recorded media in Canada, including TV, film, radio, and digital media. ACTRA’s principal role is to negotiate, administer and enforce collective agreements to provide performers with equitable compensation as well as safe and reasonable working conditions.

ACTRA National is seeking a full-time, permanent:

Manager, Finance – Performer Distributions and Tax Reporting

Internal title: Manager, Finance & Facilities Operations

When a television program is rebroadcast, a film is streamed, or recorded music is used, performers may be entitled to additional compensation for their work. ACTRA’s Performers’ Rights Society (PRS) and the Recording Artists Collecting Society (RACS) collect and distribute these funds to performers.

Behind every distribution is detailed financial work. Funds must be received, allocated, reconciled, reported and paid accurately. That is where this role comes in.

We are looking for a hands-on finance manager to lead the accounting processes that support PRS and RACS distributions. The work includes high-volume transactions, reconciliations across multiple bank accounts, journal entries, tax remittances, revenue allocations and annual tax reporting.

This is a specialized, hands-on finance role, not a position focused mainly on review and approval. You will personally complete bank reconciliations, prepare journal entries, review general ledger activity and work through the day-to-day accounting required to support performer distributions and tax reporting. A Financial Coordinator will support you.

You will also oversee a small portfolio of facility and office operations, supported by an Office Clerk.

What you will do

  • Lead and participate in PRS and RACS distributions, contributions, transfers and related accounting processes.
  • Complete distribution reconciliations, journal entries and general ledger reviews.
  • Oversee transactions and reconciliations for approximately 10 bank accounts.
  • Manage HST, QST and non-resident tax remittances.
  • Coordinate annual tax slips and reporting, including T4A, T5, T3 and Schedule 15.
  • Review revenue allocations and ensure financial records are accurate and complete.
  • Support month-end, year-end and audit work.
  • Maintain financial controls and ensure deadlines, policies and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Learn the current processes thoroughly, then identify practical ways to strengthen controls, reduce manual work and improve efficiency.
  • Manage, coach and support a Financial Coordinator and an Office Clerk.
  • Oversee office expenses and budgets, procurement, vendors, supplies, equipment, storage, mailroom functions, and building-related matters.

What you bring

  • A CPA designation in good standing.
  • A university degree in accounting, finance, commerce, economics or a related field.
  • Five to seven years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • At least one to two years of people management experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with high-volume reconciliations, journal entries, tax remittances and general ledger work.
  • Experience managing multiple bank accounts, entities, or complex transaction flows.
  • Knowledge of HST, T4A, T5, T3, non-resident tax or comparable reporting requirements.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with computerized accounting systems. Sage experience is an asset.
  • Strong judgement, accuracy and follow-through.
  • An approachable and collaborative working style.
  • The curiosity to understand how detailed financial processes connect to the organization’s broader work.

Why join ACTRA?

Your work will help ensure that performers receive the compensation they have earned from the continued use of their work.

You will have the opportunity to learn a specialized area of finance, work alongside colleagues who understand the Canadian arts and entertainment industry, and support an organization that advocates for professional performers across the country.

The work is detailed and demanding, but it has a clear purpose: supporting the people whose performances bring stories, music and productions to life.

What you should know:

  • Our office is located in downtown Toronto, and this role is 100% in-office.
  • This posting is for one existing vacancy.
  • The salary for this position is $100,000.00

How to apply

People will review your application, so we encourage you to submit a thoughtful, well-prepared resume that clearly articulates how your experience, skills, and accomplishments align with the role and what you would bring to ACTRA as the successful candidate.

Interested applicants are invited to submit a resume and cover letter to humanresources@actra.ca, quoting ‘2026-09 Manager, Finance & Operations’ in the subject line.

ACTRA is committed to employment and pay equity and we encourage applications from all equity seeking groups, including but not limited to, Indigenous and other racialized communities, people with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. In compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. If you require accommodation for a disability during any stage of the recruitment process, please notify Human Resources.

Thank you for your interest in joining us. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Pay: $100,000.00 per year

Application question(s):

  • Have you completed your Ontario CPA designation?
  • This role is 100% off-based. It is not remote or hybrid. Is there anything stopping you from travelling to downtown Toronto everyday to work in the office?
  • Have you previously applied or interviewed with ACTRA?
