Full job description

POSITION: MANAGING EDITOR - S MAGAZINE AND SMAGZINEOFFICIAL.COM

REPORTS TO: CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER

DEPARTMENT: EDITORIAL

S Magazine is Canada’s leading voice in modern luxury — covering fashion, beauty, horology, travel, culture, and entertainment across print, digital, and social platforms tailored to the interests of sophisticated Canadian women.

Contempo Media, publisher of SHARP Magazine (SHARPMagazine.com) and S Magazine (SMagazineOfficial.com), is seeking an experienced Editor with proven magazine, online and social content generation abilities, management and production experience to lead S’s editorial voice across platforms.

The preferred candidate has a portfolio of work in the women’s lifestyle space both in print and digital media and welcomes the challenge of creating engaging and on-brand custom content.

The Role

The Managing Editor will help drive S’s editorial direction across digital and print. This role blends big-picture editorial strategy with detailed execution.

The ideal candidate is both a creative visionary and an operational leader — someone who can both inspire a team and collaborate with them, is passionate about the subject matter, can manage deadlines and budgets, elevate the brand across platforms, and thrives in a fast-paced publishing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Vision, Content Development & Team Management

Lead editorial strategy and issue planning across four annual print editions.

Drive content development from ideation to execution, including cover strategy and major features. Oversee freelance writers and contributors, write and edit display copy, proofread and copy-edit final pages. Manage production timelines and editorial budgets.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Branded Integrations

Partner with creative, sales, and marketing teams to develop integrated editorial and branded content programs. Lead custom content initiatives that align with S’s voice and luxury positioning. Translate advertiser objectives into compelling premium storytelling. Monitor industry and media trends to maintain competitive advantage and cultural authority.

Digital & Social Leadership

Help guide social strategy and contribute to digital growth initiatives. Repackage print stories for online audiences and ensure all content adheres to SEO best practices. Act as a public-facing voice of S — appearing in video and social content.

S Representation

Be a brand ambassador at launches, press trips, and key industry events cultivating relationships within the premium ecosystem. Participate in occasional domestic and international travel opportunities for brand events, major cultural moments, and product introductions, as well as potential television and media appearances as a subject-matter expert.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of editorial planning and management experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of premium and luxury lifestyle space
  • Experience at multi-platform brands
  • Excellent presentation, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills
  • Comfort representing a brand publicly (events and media appearances)
  • Familiarity with digital publishing tools: InCopy, Word, Excel, Google Docs, Ai tools, etc.

Ideal candidates also demonstrate:

  • A proven ability to have positive and constructive relationships with brands
  • Initiative to create and advance ideas to company decision makers

What We Offer

  • Hybrid work schedule: office and remote (Toronto-based)
  • Benefits package
  • Paid vacation, summer hours, and additional holiday closures
  • A company laptop
  • Regular socials and lunches
  • Opportunities to travel domestically and abroad
  • Brand access
  • Creative leadership opportunity
  • Executive visibility

Important Note:
Applicants without editorial planning and management experience will not be considered. Please ensure your resume clearly reflects your qualifications.

If you are a sharp editor with a deep understanding of modern luxury — and you’re ready to help lead a multi-platform brand into its next chapter — we’d love to hear from you.
