Position Title: Mobile Health Unit Bus Driver – HART Hub (2 vacancies 0.5 FTE)
Employment Status: 6 months Contract
Position Status: This is a Bargaining Unit position. All terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement apply.
Vacancy Status: This posting is for a new vacancy
Hours of Work/Schedule: 17.5 Hours per week Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekend schedule
Hourly salary range: $25.00 - $29.00/hour commensurate on skills and experience, plus participation in HOOPP.
Position Reports To: Manager, Hart Hub
Location: Community-based and across various Agency locations within Durham Region

Position Overview
The Mobile Health Unit Driver is responsible for driving the mobile health unit to various clinics locations, health fairs, and community events; setting up for clinic services, and maintaining and submitting the mobile unit maintenance reports and executing related duties as assigned at clinic sites during clinic hours. The driver ensures the vehicle is safely operated, maintained, cleaned, and equipped to support mobile programming and client services throughout the community. The Hart Hub Bus Driver or Mobile Health Unit Bus Driver is responsible for safe operation and daily maintenance of the HART Hub vehicle in support of community outreach and mobile health services. The driver ensures the vehicle is safely operated, maintained, cleaned, and equipped to support mobile programming and client services throughout the community.
The role includes vehicle inspection, transportation support, mileage and maintenance documentation, water system management, and ensuring the bus is prepared for daily operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Safely operate the HART Hub vehicle in accordance with all provincial traffic laws, organizational policies, and safety procedures.
- Transport staff, supplies, equipment, and materials to outreach and community service locations.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain accurate mileage logs, fuel records, inspection records, maintenance, service activities and damage/incident reports.
- Coordinate routine service and preventative maintenance as directed.
- Ensure the cleanliness, upkeep, and basic maintenance of the vehicle interior and exterior.
- Coordinate and complete water servicing requirements, including:

- Filling onboard water supplies;
- Emptying wastewater tanks;
- Ensuring systems are operational before and after service shifts.
- Report mechanical concerns, safety hazards, accidents, or vehicle damage promptly to management.
- Provide set-up and support functions including set up and closing down of mobile clinic locations.
- Communicate effectively with the HART Hub Manager regarding vehicle status, scheduling, and operational concerns.
- Maintain a respectful, professional, and culturally responsive approach when interacting with clients, staff, and community members.
- Adhere to organizational health and safety policies and infection prevention practices.
- May support registration of clients at events site
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Safely load and unload medical supplies, equipment, and materials as required (up to 30–50 lbs).
- Follow predefined travel routes and ensure the vehicle is fully operational at all times.
- Transport biohazardous specimens to labs or local public health units when required and upon return to home base.
- Maintain a clean driving record and valid driver’s license throughout employment period.
- Safely transporting medical providers to and from service locations across the Durham Region, in accordance with the vehicle schedule.
- Maintain communication and coordination with the medical provider team throughout the day.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Ontario DZ Driver’s License required.
- Valid Ontario Class C License considered an asset.
- Clean driver’s abstract and satisfactory driving record.
- 3+ year’s experience operating large commercial vehicles or community service vehicles (over 1,100 kg preferred.
- Knowledge of vehicle inspection and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to complete logs, reports, and documentation accurately.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a community-based environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift and transport supplies and equipment as required.
- Experience working within community, outreach, healthcare, or social service environments is an asset.
- CPR/First Aid certification considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Durham Region preferred
Working Conditions
- Regular operation of a mobile outreach vehicle in community settings.
- May require extended periods of driving, standing, lifting, bending, and vehicle servicing tasks.
- Additional time after shifts may be required to complete water filling and wastewater disposal procedures, vehicle cleaning, and end-of-day maintenance activities.
- Work may occur in varied weather and community environments.
