Full job description
At the Upstream Lab, our research is driven by a commitment to promoting health equity and addressing the social determinants of health. Our work focuses on integrating health and social care, population health management, using data to enable proactive care, and conducting trials.
We are seeking two full-time temporary Research Assistant IIs to support clinical and qualitative research activities across several Upstream Lab projects, including PREPARED, TreatResp, Transforming Early Pregnancy Loss, and the lab’s publications process. This role will be primarily based within the Upstream Lab, with on-site work required to support study activities.
Support participant recruitment, screening, consent, data collection, follow-up, and study coordination, including on-site recruitment at St. Michael’s Hospital or St. Joseph’s Health Centre.
Assist with qualitative research activities, including interview or focus group coordination, participant communication, transcription review, coding, thematic analysis, and qualitative research documentation.
Support REDCap/eCRF data entry, source documentation, ethics submissions, regulatory files, monitoring visits, and audit preparation.
Work closely with research coordinators, investigators, clinical teams, and lab members to support smooth study operations and manuscript/publication submissions.
Projects
PREPARED: A national initiative building an integrated early warning system for pandemics using real-time clinical data and collaborative networks.
TreatResp: A Health Canada–regulated adaptive platform trial evaluating therapeutics for respiratory infections in non-hospitalized patients.
Transforming Early Pregnancy Loss: A project focused on improving access to coordinated, responsive early pregnancy loss care across Canada.
The role is offered as a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension. There may also be opportunities to contribute to other ongoing projects within the Upstream Lab. Candidates will need to be available for on-site work at St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, or other study-related locations, as required.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of specialized education and experience.
- Experience in academic, clinical, or community-based research settings, including participant recruitment, informed consent, data collection, and follow-up.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, professionalism, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of research ethics, Good Clinical Practice, Health Canada Division 5, and TCPS requirements, or willingness to complete required training shortly after hire.
- Experience with REDCap, EPIC, biological sample collection, qualitative research methods, or bilingual communication in French and English is an asset.
- All staff are expected to carry out their duties in a manner that prioritizes patient and employee safety, privacy, confidentiality, and compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
