About the job:
The Tower Crane Rigger is responsible for safely attaching, securing, directing, and handling loads lifted by tower cranes on construction projects. This role ensures materials, equipment, formwork components, and other construction-related loads are rigged and moved safely and efficiently while complying with WorkSafeBC regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect and select appropriate rigging equipment, including slings, chains, shackles, hooks, spreader bars, and lifting devices.
- Safely attach, balance, and secure loads before lifting operations.
- Determine load weights and lifting requirements prior to crane movements.
- Ensure all loads are properly rigged and stable before signaling the crane operator.
- Guide and control suspended loads using tag lines where required.
- Monitor lifting operations to identify hazards and prevent unsafe conditions.
- Act as the designated signal person for tower crane operations.
- Use standardized hand signals and radio communication to direct crane movements.
- Maintain constant communication with the tower crane operator during lifting activities.
- Ensure lifting paths remain clear of workers, equipment, and obstructions.
- Stop lifting operations immediately when unsafe conditions are observed.
- Follow all WorkSafeBC regulations and company safety procedures.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety orientations, and training sessions.
- Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of construction experience.
- Experience working around tower cranes and lifting operations.
- Knowledge of rigging practices, load calculations, and crane signaling procedures.
- Ability to read and understand lift plans and site drawings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, climbing, and performing construction-related tasks.
Key Competencies:
- Valid Rigging Certification.
- Valid Fall Protection Certification.
- First Aid Certification.
- WHMIS Certification.
- CSTS or equivalent construction safety training.
- Experience in concrete formwork construction.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $28-$34, depending upon experience.
