Role Overall Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Wind Turbine Service Lift Technician to join our growing team. This role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Wind Turbine Service Lift systems, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely. As a technician, you will play a key part in ensuring the continued safe and effective operation of these systems, while adhering to both safety standards and operational codes. The ideal candidate will be able to work at heights, in various environmental conditions, and manage the demands of fieldwork while maintaining accurate documentation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and repair Wind Turbine Service Lift Systems, including motors, switches, control systems, and wiring. Ensure all installations and repairs meet OEM safety and operational code requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical faults in Wind Turbine Service Lift systems using diagnostic tools and software. Identify issues and implement correct solutions for electrical failures, malfunctions, and system breakdowns.
  • Teamwork & Documentation: Keep accurate records of inspections, maintenance schedules, repairs, and replacements of Service Lift components. Prepare detailed reports and documentation for safety audits and compliance with state and federal regulations. Collaborate with other technicians and staff to complete projects on schedule.
  • Physical Requirements & Work at Heights: Comfortable working at heights on Wind Turbines. Must be able to lift 30-40 lbs. without assistance while climbing the Wind Tower or operating the Wind Tower Service Lifts. Ability to work in various conditions like snow, high temperatures, humidity, and remote locations.
  • Health & Safety: Adhere to strict safety protocols to conduct work safely and responsibly. Wind-specific safety and Wind Tower Service Lift training will be provided to successful, certified EDMA applicants.

Skills, Abilities & Requirements:

  • Education: Post-secondary education with an electrical or mechanical base is an asset.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Strong ability to troubleshoot electrical issues quickly and efficiently. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software.
  • Commitment to Safety: A strong commitment to following safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, team members, and other professionals.
  • Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Work Flexibility: Willingness to travel for 6-8 weeks at a time and work up to 10 hours a day (up to 60 hours a week) at wind turbine project sites.
  • License Requirement: A valid driver’s license is a must for this position.

The following certifications are required:

  • A valid EDM-A (Elevating Devices Mechanic) Certificate with a minimum of 4 years experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating professionalism at all times.
  • GWO BST (Basic Safety Training) - fire awareness, working at heights, manual handling, first aid
  • GWO BTT (Basic Technical Training) - electrical, hydraulic, mechanical
  • Siemens Basic Technician training or Troubleshooter Family 1/2/3/4/9 or Maintenance Family 1/2/3/4/9.
  • OSHA 10 General Industry
  • Crane, Chain Hoist and Rigging Safety Training
  • NFPA 70E Arc-Flash Awareness
  • Prefer training or experience with Touchscreen Controller Hand Terminals
