The Britannia Mine Museum is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Squamish Nation along the beautiful shores of Howe Sound.

The Museum is a self-sustaining, non-profit organization, that creates accessible learning experiences to inspire discovery and connection through guided interpretive programming, self exploration opportunities, and the preservation of our historical site and artifacts.

About You:

You are a ‘Retail Superstar’ who is passionate about working at one of the best attractions the Sea-to-Sky Corridor has to offer! You are inspired to grow within the travel, tourism and cultural services (museum) retail environment.

You have (at minimum) a high school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in retail, tourism, business, or hospitality is considered an asset .

At least one year of experience in a retail service-related position is required to apply.

Skills and attributes needed for this role include:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and approachable.

  • Basic math and cash handling skills, with the ability to processes payment through cash as well as using a POS system; able to reconcile till, and do opening and closing cash handling duties.

  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including families, children, and international guests.

  • Able to learn and carry out the Museum’s processes and practices in both the retail and cafe spaces.

  • Able to multi-task and respond to guest queries effectively in a fast-paced and environment.

  • A dependable team player who takes initiative to work effectively to problem solve and brainstorm with various parties, including colleagues and leadership within guest services as well as other departments.

About the Role:

Our Museum Retail Associates are the retail point of contact for guests to the Britannia Mine Museum. This role supports our guests to have an optimal retail experience and is integral to maintaining the high quality of guest service at the Museum. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting guests with their full museum retail experience; seeking out merchandise or services sought, make recommendations for purchases & processing purchases.

  • Showcasing the variety of merchandise available for sale.

  • Restocking, pricing, merchandising and cleaning the retail area.

  • Annual inventory.

  • Performing opening and/or closing duties

  • Responding to guest inquiries.

  • Preparing for the following days activities including daily cleaning or organizing.

  • Acting as an ambassador for the Museum to our on site guests, providing a world class welcome!

  • Abiding by the Museum’s Code of Conduct and the Museum’s Health & Safety Program.

Secondary responsibilities in the Chatterbox Cafe (for lunch and occasional coverage) which include:

  • Serving guests in the Chatterbox Cafe; taking orders, processing payments.

  • Supporting Museum special event food services.

  • Food and beverage preparation as per the Museum’s standards (following all applicable safe food handling procedures and regulations).

  • Cleaning and bussing duties.

Qualifications:

  • Customer service, retail, admissions, café and/or and cash handling experience are an asset, however we are willing to train the right person. If you love working with people, and have basic cash handling and computer skills, please apply!

  • Willing to complete a Criminal Record Check, as per the Museum’s policies.

  • Willing to take Food Safe Level 1 (as required) required.

Additional Important Information:

  • Benefits and and RRSP matching program at 90 days for team members who work more than 20 hours/week.

  • At least one weekend day per week and stat holidays are required, as these are our busiest times.

  • All employees must complete a Criminal Record Check, in accordance with the Museum’s Child and Vulnerable People Code of Conduct. The cost and process is covered by the Museum.

  • Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Applicants must have access to reliable transportation as the Museum cannot be accessed by public transit.
