DERM.CA Job Description – Clinic Nurse

Job Title: CLINIC NURSE

Reports To: MEDICAL DIRECTOR – DR. ALANEN & CLINIC DIRECTOR – ILDIKO JUHASZ

Purpose of the position

To ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the clinic and provide an exceptional standard of care to our patients

Responsibilities

CLINICAL:

  • Greet patients and escort them to consultation and /or treatment room
  • Provide general dermatology and aesthetic nursing care to patients
  • Complete initial consultations/medical assessments on patients
  • Explain procedures to patients, providing them with support and reassurance
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments
  • Perform clinical duties and Derm.ca procedures (including assisting with skin cancer surgeries, minor surgeries, cosmetic procedures, shave biopsies, injections, LN2 treatments, etc.) within required level of clinical competency
  • Accompany and assist Dr. Alanen with patients
  • Conduct all preoperative teaching, answering all questions so patient is well informed
  • Obtain informed consent for all patients undergoing surgeries or procedures
  • Set-up and clean up before and after all surgeries and procedures
  • Assist/circulate during surgeries
  • Complete all paperwork on pathology ensuring all samples are correctly labelled and accounted for so follow-up can be made. Call patients requiring follow-up/surgery once pathology results are received and reviewed. Follow up on biopsies in

EMR (ensure lab reports received)

  • Maintain and review patient records, charts and other important information
  • Chart consistently and accurately on paper charts and on computer (autopopulationfunction in EMR)
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards, and educate patients on prescriptions and recommended treatments
  • Discuss and promote retail skin care products and clinic procedures to patients
  • Maintain clean, tidy environment, stocking/cleaning treatment rooms and operating rooms
  • Respond to telephone/email enquiries relating to patients, lab requests, prescription requests, etc.
  • Perform clinical duties within required level of clinical competency, according to approved Policies and Procedures

EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES:

  • Sterilize and maintain clinical equipment
  • Maintain stocks of clinical supplies, including correct storage (such as refrigeration), removal of out-of-date stock and ordering supplies
  • Provide input in purchasing relevant clinical equipment and supplies

PROFESSIONAL:

  • Always act within the practice and nursing code of ethics & appropriate level of clinical competence
  • Dress in appropriate black scrubs
  • Maintain current knowledge of and apply Occupational Health and Safety standards and use of Personal Protective Equipment and Standard Precautions as well as Additional Precautions
  • Maintain patient and clinic confidentiality
  • Work as team player to ensure clinic operates smoothly and on time
  • Maintain and update nursing, patient and clinic standards and protocols
  • Use effective time management and sound judgment when using materials during procedures to ensure cost-effective patient care

GENERAL:

  • Assist with other practice duties as required

Pay: $23.00-$30.00 per hour
