Clubhouse Server Position Summary:

The Clubhouse Server plays a vital role in delivering the exceptional hospitality experience that defines St. George’s Golf & Country Club. More than simply serving food and beverages, Clubhouse Servers are ambassadors of the Club, creating memorable experiences through attentive, personalized, and professional service.

As a member-facing position, the Clubhouse Server significantly influences members' and guests' perceptions of the Club. Success in this role requires a commitment to hospitality excellence, teamwork, attention to detail, product knowledge, and the ability to anticipate and exceed member expectations.

The position also supports the Club’s standards of operational excellence through proper maintenance of dining facilities, equipment, inventory, and service areas while upholding the values and reputation of St. George’s Golf & Country Club.

Qualifications & Required Skills Education & Experience

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of restaurant, banquet, hospitality, or comparable food and beverage experience.
  • Previous private club experience is considered an asset.

Professional Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a strong command of spoken and written English.
  • Professional appearance, positive attitude, and commitment to hospitality.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Punctual, dependable, and accountable.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 30 lbs (14 kg).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage service, including wine, beer, spirits, cocktails, and dining etiquette.

Certifications

  • Smart Serve Certification (required).
  • First Aid Certification (Asset)
  • Food Handler Certification (asset).
  • Experience with POS systems, including Jonas or equivalent platforms, is an asset.

Availability

  • Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts as required by Club operations.

Primary Responsibilities Member & Guest Service

  • Deliver exceptional service that consistently exceeds member and guest expectations.
  • Provide food and beverage service in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of menus, daily features, beverage offerings, and Club promotions.
  • Make recommendations and actively upsell food and beverage offerings to enhance the member experience.
  • Anticipate member needs and respond promptly to requests.
  • Ensure all food and beverage items are served at the appropriate temperature and presentation standards.
  • Address concerns professionally and communicate member feedback or special requests to management immediately.

Dining Room & Event Operations

  • Prepare dining and event spaces according to Club standards.
  • Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of Club events, banquets, and special functions.
  • Ensure all service stations remain fully stocked, organized, and presentation-ready throughout service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining areas, patios, service stations, storage rooms, and back-of-house areas.
  • Follow all opening, closing, and side-work procedures accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure all Club equipment, furnishings, and service ware are handled, maintained, and stored properly.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with fellow Food & Beverage team members and other Club departments.
  • Support coworkers during peak service periods to ensure seamless operations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, menu tastings, and educational programs.
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Inventory & Operational Excellence

  • Assist with inventories of food, beverage, service equipment, china, glassware, silverware, and operating supplies as required.
  • Monitor stock levels and communicate shortages to management promptly.
  • Report equipment malfunctions immediately to minimize service disruptions and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Support cost-control initiatives through proper product handling and waste reduction.

Club Standards & Professional Development

  • Adhere to all Club policies, procedures, and service standards.
  • Maintain current knowledge of food, beverage, wine, and service trends.
  • Successfully complete menu and beverage knowledge assessments as required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Health, Safety & Sanitation Responsibilities

  • Follow all health, safety, sanitation, and food-handling procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by practicing the Club's "Clean As You Go" philosophy.
  • Identify, correct, or report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Complete safety work orders and incident reports as required.
  • Follow all accident and emergency response procedures.
  • Cooperate fully with the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Use equipment safely and in accordance with Club standards.
  • Ensure all work areas remain clean, organized, secure, and compliant with health and safety regulations.

Additional Duties

The Club reserves the right to assign additional responsibilities that support operational requirements, service excellence, and the overall success of St. George’s Golf & Country Club.

Employees are expected to perform all reasonable duties as assigned by management while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, hospitality, and member service.
