The University Club of Victoria, formerly known as the Faculty Club, is a Members Club located on the forested grounds of the University of Victoria. The club has been in operation for over 50 years and its West Coast design and cedar construction lend itself gracefully to the natural, picturesque setting on the University of Victoria's campus. The private lounge overlooking the turtle and duck pond, spacious main dining room, secluded patio, and multiple meeting rooms provide an ideal setting for regular lunches, dinners, special events, meetings, and weddings.
The University Club is seeking a self-motivated General Manager who can help our organization to grow. The General Manager should be able to network and build lasting, professional relationships with clients, while constantly looking for ways to increase the registration of new members. The Club General Manager's responsibilities include working with a broad membership and an excellent team of staff while implementing a strategic vision to the Club.

The minimum criteria for this position includes five years of management experience in the hospitality sector. Club experience is an asset.
Salary range: $100,000 to $110,000 based on experience, with a generous benefit package and performance bonus.
Responsibilities and Expectations
General Operations
- Enhance the Club's brand through participation in community activities
- Supervise and support the sales and catering event manager in event and entertainment planning
- Foster relationships with all members and welcome new guests
- Emcee at all member events
- Recruit, onboard, manage, and coach staff
- Provide oversight and delegation of duties where appropriate
- Create weekly staff schedule
Strategy and Vision
- Develop a strategic vision and 5-year plan for the direction of the Club
- Develop and maintain a fundamental management philosophy that recognizes our staff is a key part of our sustainability and overall membership services
- Manage and clearly define staff goals and objectives, and provide consistent feedback towards continuous improvement
Financial
- Oversee financial management aspects of the Club's business, and provide financial oversight for all capital purchases
- Financial reporting to Club Board of Directors and Finance Committee Chairperson
- Protect the assets of the Club
- Implement productivity and cost savings opportunities that do not detract from the membership experience and service standards
- Annual reporting to the Board of Directors including results of staff performance reviews and salary / bonus recommendations
- Monthly reports to the Board of Directors on Club performance, HR items, Club events and upcoming business
Compliance and Due Diligence
- Maintain all approved Club by-laws, policies, and procedures; recommend changes when necessary
- Application of annual liquor license, health operating permit, and business license
- Chair monthly safety committee meetings
- Chair the Club Collective Agreement negotiations committee
- Complete work orders for all maintenance issues for building, grounds and equipment
- Source vendors for purchasing necessary equipment
- Chair a weekly management meeting to ensure service, events, HR developments, and financial results are communicated to the management team
- Filing of annual BC Registry/Society report
- Ensure the Club is compliant with regulatory requirements and fiduciary responsibilities (BC Society Act)
- Maintain food safety expectations and compliance with Public Health requirements
- Board of Directors liaison
- Work with the Board to establish the annual budget and the 5-year capital plan
