Child Care Centre Cook

A&D Child Care Centre & Out of School Care – Sherwood Park, AB

Position: Full-Time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday to Friday | 7:00 AM – 2:30 PM
No evenings, weekends, or statutory holidays

A&D Child Care Centre & Out of School Care is looking for a dependable, organized, and caring Cook to join our team. This is an important role within our centre, providing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks that support the growth, development, and well-being of approximately 80–100 children each day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve nutritious morning snacks, lunch, and afternoon snacks for approximately 80–100 children daily.
  • Develop rotating monthly menus that follow Canada's Food Guide and meet licensing requirements.
  • Accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special nutritional needs.
  • Order groceries and kitchen supplies while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
  • Pick up groceries and kitchen supplies approximately once per week using your personal vehicle.
  • Minimize food waste through proper inventory management and meal planning.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen that meets Alberta Health Services standards.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures and complete all required food safety documentation.
  • Properly label, date, rotate, and store food products.
  • Manage daily meal preparation independently while ensuring meals are served on schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding menus, inventory, and children's dietary requirements.
  • Assist with food preparation for centre events and celebrations as required.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, childcare centre, school, healthcare facility, or restaurant.
  • Holds a valid Food Safe Certification.
  • Has strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling practices.
  • Can efficiently prepare high-quality meals for large groups while maintaining excellent food safety standards.
  • Is highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Is comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and enjoys contributing to a supportive team.
  • Is passionate about preparing healthy meals that help children learn, grow, and thrive.

Reliability Matters

This role is essential to the daily operation of our centre. Children depend on meals being prepared and served on time every day.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has an excellent attendance record.
  • Is dependable and committed to working every scheduled shift.
  • Consistently arrives on time and ready to begin work at 7:00 AM.
  • Understands that punctuality is a condition of employment, as meal preparation begins immediately each morning.

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants must provide:

  • Current Food Safe Certification.
  • Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (issued within the last six months).
  • A reliable personal vehicle and willingness to use it for weekly grocery and supply pickups (mileage reimbursed in accordance with company policy).
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
