Full job description

What we’re up to at Untold

We are a creative community - a team of world-class talent, visionary clients, and an exciting future ahead. As a studio, our people and culture are at the core of everything we do. Our purpose is simple: to create outstanding content that captivates audiences, while enjoying every step of the journey.

We are currently building our talent pipeline for upcoming 2026 projects. While we may not have an immediate start date, we are actively reviewing all levels for future vacancies.

The Role
As a lighting artist you will be responsible for creating lighting setups for a variety of projects, from matching CG assets into live action plates through to full CG shots. You will be responsible for asset lookdev, through the creation of texture maps and shader networks. You will have an excellent eye for detail and a good understanding of rendering and lookdev techniques and technologies in industry standard software. We are committed to supporting you and your ongoing development. We will work closely with you to establish a personal progression plan. You are never on your own.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of a range of rendering software and shader development in Houdini, alongside asset creation software, eg. Substance, Mari etc.

  • The ability to assemble lighting scenes from various discipline departments using the asset pipeline.

  • Receiving creative briefs, attending dailies and interpreting and addressing constructive feedback.

  • Applying your knowledge of CG techniques and artistic principles to the creation of your own or pre existing setups.

  • The ability to apply colour space theory (ACES) in all aspects of the rendering pipeline and an understanding of physically plausible shader creation.

  • The creation of rough comps from your render passes and AOV’s before they are passed to compositing.

  • Collaborating with compositors to ensure that render passes are consistent and can be seamlessly integrated into shots.

  • Troubleshooting, diagnostics and optimisation of rendering scenes and farm logs.

  • An understanding of Linux operating systems.

  • Working as part of a team while sharing knowledge and skills.

  • Regularly liaising with production and lead regarding the schedules and deadlines.

  • Taking ownership of your workload from the start of a project through to the deadline.

  • Communicating your thoughts and ideas clearly in a professional and positive manner.

We are committed to supporting you and your ongoing development. We will work closely with you to establish your personal progression plan. You are never on your own.

Salary range: $70,000 - $120,000 CAD annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
