Telecommunications Field Technician (Independent Contractor)

Position Summary

We are seeking motivated and reliable Telecommunications Field Technicians (Independent Contractors) to join our growing network. This role is ideal for individuals who are safety-conscious, technically skilled, and enjoy working independently in the field while delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test fiber optic, coaxial, and CAT6 cabling
  • Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables in a residential or commercial setting
  • Install media converters, ONTs, switches and routers in a residential or commercial setting
  • Install CAT6 wiring in a residential or commercial setting in a safe, professional manner
  • Interact with the client or support staff in a respectful, courteous, and professional manner
  • Install and configure ONTs, media converters, routers, switches, and telecom equipment
  • Perform installation and repair of Internet, TV, VoIP, and phone services
  • Conduct troubleshooting and resolve service issues efficiently
  • Complete new builds, service upgrades, and fiber transfers
  • Maintain safety standards and follow all procedures
  • Load/unload equipment and lift up to 75 lbs (34 kg)
  • Interact professionally with customers and provide excellent service

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in fiber optic installation and troubleshooting (asset)
  • Experience with OTDR and fiber testing equipment (asset)
  • Knowledge of networking, routers, and wireless systems (asset)
  • Experience with telecom, or low-voltage installations preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Comfortable using computers and Windows-based applications

Requirements

  • Must operate as an independent contractor (registered business with valid GST number)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract
  • Valid WorkSafe coverage and commercial liability insurance
  • Clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight as required
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Physically capable of lifting 75 lbs and performing field work
