About this opportunity

Are you ready to launch your career by gaining diverse and valuable experience as an Engineer-in-Training in the Energy Sector?

Cenovus’s New Grad Program aims to attract, develop and retain exceptional new grads to build a top talent pipeline for the company. The program provides new grads with a broad understanding of Cenovus’s core business through challenging work assignments, training and development, field exposure and the opportunity to develop a large network of contacts through networking and mentorship opportunities.

Our Program consists of three consecutive 12-month rotational assignments that span Cenovus’s varied business areas. Upon completion of the three-year program, you will be matched to a permanent role within the organization. This role will be based on business need and relocation may be required .

As an Engineer-in-Training at Cenovus, possible rotations could include:

  • Development Engineering

  • Field Facility Engineering

  • Drilling, Completions & Well Servicing

  • Integrity Engineering/Technical Services

  • Maintenance & Reliability

  • Operations Process Engineering

  • Process and Technical Safety

  • Process Controls

  • Process Design

  • Production Engineering

  • Project Engineering

  • Reservoir Engineering

Your first rotation—and your final placement upon completion of the New Grad Program—will be at one of our Oil Sands operations: Foster Creek, Christina Lake, or Sunrise. Additional rotations may take place in Calgary, AB, or at one of our Oil Sands operations (Foster Creek, Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Sunrise).

Our Oil Sands sites offer full-service camp accommodations. Depending on your residence and shift schedule, bus and/or air transportation may be provided from designated departure points in select locations.

Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Available to begin work June 202 7

  • Must have an undergraduat e or graduate Mechanical, Chemical/Process , or Petroleum Engineering-related degree obtained by May 31, 2027, and completed within the last 2 years (202 5 , 2026, or before May 31, 202 7 ) .

  • Must be eligible to register for your Engineer-in-Training designation.

  • Has less than two years of professional experience related to this discipline of study, excluding student experience.

Safety Sensitive Considerations:

Some of the EIT rotations are deemed safety-sensitive positions. Those positions will require you to hold a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Cenovus policies and guidelines. If selected to work in one of these locations, a driver’s abstract will be requested prior to the commencement of that position. As well, if your rotation location/role is deemed safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
