Aerospace Engineer – Aviation Customer & Technical Support
This position is intended for an Aerospace Engineer who wants to work directly with airlines and other aviation customers. It is not an IT, software development, systems administration or sales position.
APS Aerospace is seeking an Aerospace Engineer with strong communication and relationship-building skills to join our Ottawa team and work directly with airline and other aviation customers.
If you have a genuine interest in aircraft and aviation, enjoy working with people, and can comfortably move between technical problem-solving and customer conversations, this may be the right role for you.
You will work directly with airlines and other aviation organizations around the world. You will learn each customer's operation, understand their technical requirements, assist with software configuration and implementation, help investigate issues, and coordinate with APS's Engineering and Development teams when required.
About APS Aerospace
APS Aerospace is a Canadian aviation safety company specializing in flight data analysis, flight simulation and flight recorder readout services. From our headquarters in Ottawa, we support aviation organizations worldwide with data-driven insights and innovative software solutions that enhance safety, compliance and operational performance.
The Role
This is a technical, customer-facing role where your aerospace engineering knowledge and understanding of aviation are fundamental to the position.
You will be the primary point of contact for a portfolio of aviation customers. You will develop an understanding of their aircraft, operations and technical requirements and help them successfully use APS Aerospace's products and services.
This role is well suited to an Aerospace Engineer who enjoys the technical side of aviation but also enjoys talking to people, explaining technical concepts, building relationships and solving problems with customers.
What You'll Do
- Build strong, long-term working relationships with airline and aviation customers.
- Learn and understand each customer's aircraft, operational environment and technical requirements.
- Act as the primary technical contact for assigned customers using APS Aerospace products.
- Guide customers through implementation, configuration, onboarding, upgrades and deployment of APS Aerospace software.
- Configure APS Aerospace products, including Insight, FAS and Lumina, to meet customer requirements.
- Use your aerospace engineering and aviation knowledge to understand customer questions, operational issues and technical requirements.
- Assist customers with technical and software-related issues and coordinate more complex matters with APS Engineering and Development teams.
- Work with flight data and aviation-related information to help investigate and resolve customer issues.
- Use Python for data analysis, scripting and technical problem-solving as required.
- Deliver customer training, technical presentations and product demonstrations.
- Explain complex aerospace and technical concepts clearly to customers with varying levels of technical expertise.
- Participate in software testing and validation activities.
- Gather customer requirements and operational feedback and communicate them to APS Engineering and Development teams.
- Participate in an after-hours customer support rotation as required.
Who We're Looking For
Please review the mandatory qualifications carefully before applying.
To be considered for this position, you MUST meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline with demonstrated aircraft/aviation systems knowledge.
- Genuine working knowledge of aircraft and the aviation industry. You should be comfortable discussing aircraft, aircraft manufacturers, aviation operations and basic aircraft systems.
- Working knowledge of Python, including its use for data analysis, scripting or technical problem-solving.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence and strong interpersonal skills to build professional relationships with airline and aviation customers.
- Ability to understand complex aerospace and technical information and explain it clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with customers, aerospace engineers and software developers to understand requirements and resolve technical issues.
Important: This position is not intended for candidates whose experience is primarily in IT support, systems administration, network administration, software development, SaaS customer success or sales unless they also meet the aerospace/aviation qualifications above.
What Would Make You Stand Out
We would be particularly interested in candidates with:
- Professional, academic or hands-on experience involving aircraft or aviation.
- Knowledge of commercial aircraft, aircraft systems or airline operations.
- Experience with flight data analysis or Flight Data Monitoring (FDM).
- Experience with flight simulation or aviation software.
- Previous experience working directly with aviation customers.
- Experience delivering technical training, presentations or demonstrations.
Why Join APS Aerospace?
- Apply your aerospace engineering education in a unique customer-facing technical role.
- Work directly with airlines and aviation organizations around the world.
- Develop hands-on knowledge of flight data analysis and aviation safety technologies.
- Work with aircraft data, flight simulation and aviation software.
- Contribute to real-world aviation safety operations.
- Join a collaborative team of aviation, engineering and technology professionals.
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
