Full job description

At Durnin Farm and Ranch Wear (DFR), we believe your best clothes belong in the barn. As DFR's first Senior Technical Developer, you'll help shape the future of what women wear to the barn. You’ll create products that help them feel confident and well-equipped to tackle their rural lifestyle and pursue their goals.

Since 2021, DFR has been designing innovative workwear specifically for women in the agriculture and equine industry. We’re building a new category of clothing: Barn Clothes, and solving problems like:

  • How can we keep cowgirls warm and flexible in the saddle during the winter?
  • How do we ensure women stay clean but aren’t sweating during summer chores?
  • How do we maximize mobility for kneeling, climbing gates, and saddling up while maintaining durability?

This is an opportunity to develop some of the most technically challenging garments on the market. DFR’s goal for every product is to fit and flatter a wide range of body types, maximize mobility, and withstand demanding daily use.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the technical development of new workwear products from concept through production
  • Lead garment fittings with real customers to identify fit, mobility, and performance improvements
  • Develop and continually refine DFR's fit blocks across product categories and size ranges
  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs, construction details, and measurement charts
  • Collaborate directly with our overseas manufacturing partners to communicate technical revisions, review samples, and resolve development challenges
  • Translate customer feedback into technical improvements: “I need a better place to carry syringes”, “I can’t get my foot up into the stirrup”, “I want to be able to put my overalls on without undoing buckles”
  • Evaluate prototypes through wear testing, incorporating customer feedback into each development round
  • Recommend improvements to garment construction, pattern refinement, durability, and functionality
  • Research and recommend fabrics, trims, hardware, and construction methods that improve product performance
  • Play a defining role in shaping not only our products, but also the technical standards and development processes that will shape DFR’s future

About you:

  • Committed to excellence and passionate about perfecting fit, regardless of how many development rounds it takes
  • Able to think outside the box, bringing technical fabrics, innovative construction methods, and modern design into a traditional apparel category
  • Self-directed with a strong sense of ownership. You'll work closely with the founder as DFR's technical expert, confidently providing technical leadership in an entrepreneurial environment without a large product development team behind you
  • Passionate about creating innovative products that genuinely improve women's lives
  • Energized by solving complex fit, mobility, and durability challenges

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in technical apparel development within outdoor, ski and snowboard, workwear, or other performance apparel categories
  • Experience leading garment fittings and driving fit improvements through multiple development rounds
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, grading, and factory-ready tech packs
  • Experience collaborating directly with overseas manufacturing partners
  • Experience developing products using heavy canvas, technical stretch woven, and waterproof fabrics
  • Strong understanding of zippers, hardware, trims, and construction methods
  • Experience developing products across extended size ranges (XXS–6X)

What you'll be part of:

  • A mission to help women feel their best when doing what they love
  • A small, passionate, female-led team building an iconic brand from the ground up
  • The freedom to challenge conventional thinking and develop innovative technical solutions
  • See the results and hear feedback from actual customers firsthand
  • Help shape the future of what women wear to the barn by influencing every product we create

Work Arrangement

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with an anticipated annual salary range of $115,000–$140,000. While our long-term vision is to build our product development team at DFR headquarters in Goderich, Ontario, exceptional technical talent is our top priority. We're open to discussing flexible work arrangements for the right person, including remote work with regular travel. To apply, please email the following to michelle@dfrwear.com:

  • Your resume
  • 2-3 examples of relevant products you've worked on (photos, website links, or descriptions of non-confidential examples) and a brief description of your role in their development

Pay: $115,000.00-$140,000.00 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Goderich, ON N7A 4K3
