Full job description

BIS Safety Software is a SaaS company on a mission to change how organizations manage safety, learning, and compliance, and the team behind that mission matters just as much as the product. As we continue to grow, we’re expanding our QA team and adding another Software Tester to help strengthen our testing capabilities.

We’re looking for someone who is thoughtful, detail-oriented, and passionate about software quality. This role has a strong focus on manual testing and is a great fit for someone who enjoys digging into the details, uncovering issues, and understanding how things work, while also having an interest in contributing to automation efforts along the way.

About the role:

As part of our QA team, you’ll play a hands-on role in making sure every requirement meets a high standard of quality and performs as expected for our clients. Your primary focus will be manual testing, working through new features and product updates, identifying bugs and edge cases, and catching issues before they make it into production.

You’ll work closely with developers and other QA team members to understand product workflows, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve how we test. While manual testing will be the main focus of this role, you’ll also have opportunities to contribute to and work alongside our growing automation efforts.

This is an onsite role based out of our Sherwood Park, Alberta office.

In this role, you'll be expected to:

  • Execute thorough manual testing for new features, releases, bug fixes, and regression cycles
  • Create and maintain clear, structured test plans, test cases, and test scenarios
  • Collaborate closely with developers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve issues
  • Test across different workflows and user scenarios to uncover bugs, edge cases, and usability issues
  • Contribute to automation testing efforts by maintaining or updating existing automated tests and scripts as needed
  • Participate in improving QA processes, testing coverage, and documentation
  • Prepare and manage test data to support testing activities
  • Leverage tools and emerging technologies, including AI, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of QA workflows

You might be the right fit if you:

  • Are highly detail-oriented and naturally curious when exploring systems and workflows
  • Enjoy hands-on manual testing and digging into how features work from a user’s perspective
  • Think critically and can identify bugs, inconsistencies, and edge cases others might miss
  • Are proactive in clarifying requirements and asking questions when something doesn’t quite add up
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical team members
  • Take ownership of testing activities and follow issues through to resolution
  • Thrive in a collaborative, fast-changing environment
  • Are tech-savvy and comfortable learning new tools, technologies, and testing approaches
  • Have an interest in automation testing and are comfortable contributing to automation efforts when needed
  • Approach testing and problem-solving thoughtfully and methodically

Qualifications:

  • Strong foundation in manual software testing, including test case design, regression testing, and exploratory testing
  • Experience creating and maintaining test plans, test cases, and testing documentation
  • Strong ability to identify, document, reproduce, and track bugs and defects
  • Exposure to test automation or frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium
  • Familiarity with modern QA practices and approaches to improving testing quality and coverage
  • Experience working within a collaborative QA and development team
  • Strong documentation, communication, and defect reporting skills

Bonus points if you have:

  • Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript, Git, and CI/CD workflows
  • Experience working in a SaaS or software product environment
  • Experience with API testing tools or techniques
  • Computer Science, Software Development, ISTQB Certified or related education is an asset, or equivalent hands-on experience

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Life insurance and disability insurance
  • Health spending account
  • Flexible working hours
  • On-the-job training and growth opportunities
  • Free on-site parking

Salary ranges are based on experience, reflecting the unique skillset each individual brings to the role.
