Full job description

TITLE: Supported Child Development Program Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Child and Youth Services

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Early Childhood Educator – Grid Level 10

HOURS OF WORK: 60 Hours Bi-weekly. Flexible hours, Monday to Friday

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • One year recent related experience working with typical and/or special needs preschool children.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding and ability to apply current concepts in early childhood development
  • Working knowledge of assessment tools, program design and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, within a team setting, and in conjunction with other agencies/groups
  • Demonstrated ability to develop alternate strategies when supporting children who need extra support in a childcare setting.
  • Ability to be creative, demonstrate initiative, and deliver a positive sense of humour in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and work effectively with children in both group and one to one settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a positive, supportive and professional relationship with children and their families.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computerized systems
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of community living

  • Clearance from Physician

An equivalent of experience may be considered for this position.
