Job Summary:

CNST 1110 — American Power in Canada

Provides an understanding of contemporary American cultural, economic, and political power in Canada and the varied popular and institutional responses. Topics may include the political-economy of Canada - US relations; the free trade agreements and globalization; and American impact on Canadian arts, film, and media.


Job Description:

One temporary position to teach a section of Canadian Studies 1110: American Power in Canada. This course provides an understanding of contemporary American cultural, economic, and political power in Canada and the varied popular and institutional responses. Candidates deemed qualified will be asked to develop lectures and course assignments to reflect course content and themes, as well as grading course assessments. They will be able to teach on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30-14:20 (in-person) starting September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026.


Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in related field (such as Canadian Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, Geography) is required.

  • A sound knowledge of the current issues in Canada-U.S. relations.

  • An understanding of key concepts as it applies to Canada and the U.S: economic and political interdependence, trans-national relations, geo-political and regional integration, and theories of sovereignty and the state.

  • Using Brightspace and other educational technology is an asset.

  • Demonstrated post-secondary teaching experience related to course content is preferred.

  • Ability to attend program meetings and be an active member of the Canadian Studies program is preferred.
