Full job description
We are seeking an experienced Indian Chef specializing in Punjabi cuisine to join our restaurant kitchen. The ideal candidate must have at least 3 years of professional experience cooking Punjabi and Indian food in a restaurant kitchen and be able to independently prepare a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes while maintaining consistent quality, taste, and presentation.
The chef will be responsible for preparing our Indian menu, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, properly handling and storing food, and ensuring that all cooking and food preparation areas meet required hygiene and food safety standards.
Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of Punjabi and Indian dishes according to restaurant recipes and quality standards
- Independently prepare key menu items including Butter Chicken, Chicken Curry, Dal Makhani, Shahi Paneer, Palak Paneer, Kadhai Paneer, Chili Chicken/Paneer, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Malai Chicken Tikka, Afgani Chicken Tikka, Paneer Tikka, naan, paratha, chaat and other Indian dishes
- Prepare Indian gravies, sauces, marinades, spice blends and other ingredients required for daily kitchen operations
- Maintain consistent taste, portion sizes, quality, and presentation of all Indian dishes
- Prepare food efficiently during busy restaurant service while keeping up with customer orders
- Maintain proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and food safety procedures
- Clean up after yourself throughout the shift, including cleaning workstations, utensils, preparation areas, and equipment after use
- Leave the kitchen clean and organized at the end of each day, including cleaning cooking surfaces, preparation areas, equipment, and other areas used during the shift
- Properly store and label food and ingredients at the end of the shift
- Monitor food inventory and notify management when ingredients or supplies need to be replenished
- Minimize food waste and maintain proper portion control
- Work cooperatively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth restaurant operations
- Follow restaurant recipes and instructions while maintaining the authenticity and quality of Punjabi and Indian cuisine
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience cooking Punjabi/Indian cuisine in a restaurant kitchen
- Strong knowledge of Punjabi cuisine, Indian spices, cooking techniques, and traditional preparation methods
- Demonstrated ability to prepare a wide variety of Indian dishes independently
- Experience preparing tandoori dishes, curries, paneer dishes, lentils, naan, paratha and Indian appetizers
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling
- Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
- Ability to maintain consistent food quality and taste
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a kitchen team
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in a Punjabi or North Indian restaurant
- Experience with high-volume restaurant service
- Experience preparing food for catering and large orders
- Experience with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian dishes
