At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada’s most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.
KPMG’s M&A Operations team helps companies identify and realize tangible value from major transactions, including acquisitions and divestitures, that have lasting impacts on the future of their business. We support our clients throughout every stage of the transaction cycle, from pre-deal operational due diligence or business improvement assessments to post-deal integration or separation. We help executive teams, management and stakeholders assess the impacts of a transaction and develop executable strategies and plans that support the strategic rationale of the acquisition or divestiture. We work with a broad range of clients, including public, private and private equity-owned companies across various industries.

What you will do:
Our Montreal M&A Operations team is currently seeking a Consultant/Senior Consultant.
- Work closely with executives and key team members across a wide range of Quebec-based organizations to help them maximize value from key transactions.
- Provide strategic advice to executives on integration and separation risks, and support the identification, analysis and realization of value-creation opportunities by developing robust models based on financial and non-financial data.
- Identify the operational benefits and risks associated with a transaction and develop executable plans.
- Estimate the additional costs required for a carved-out entity to operate as a stand-alone business.
- Review and challenge management’s synergy plans in merger transactions.
- Develop detailed and robust cost-saving plans to support the vendor due diligence process.
- Conduct industry research, produce benchmarks, and gather financial and operational key performance indicators to leverage external perspectives and challenge performance.
- Help clients execute synergy or cost-saving tracking, planning and initial implementation.
- Actively participate in negotiating key commercial terms of a transaction.
- Support clients in realizing value from their transactions by working within engagement teams:
- Provide planning and execution support ahead of Day 1.
- Develop a target operating model describing how the separated or combined business will operate after the transaction.
- Help establish and manage a Separation or Integration Management Office (SMO/IMO).
- Help clients develop detailed separation or integration plans and provide operational and transactional advice on legal documents and client plans.
- Provide function-specific advice on key separation and integration challenges.
- Provide change management support and advice.
- Interact and communicate effectively with client executives, including Chief Financial Officers and Chief Operating Officers, and work closely with senior client teams such as Vice-Presidents and Directors.
- Take responsibility for the timely delivery of well-structured, fact- and data-based client deliverables that exceed client expectations.
- Communicate effectively and confidently with engagement leaders and client senior management to discuss insights and analytical findings.
At times, business needs arise and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal workday or workweek to fulfill the responsibilities of their role. Likewise, people need time to attend to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility supports this.
What you bring to this role:
- Exposure to mergers and acquisitions (more than five years) in a consulting, corporate or private equity environment is strongly preferred.
- Two to five years of relevant, hands-on professional experience.
- A curious, investigative and digital mindset to challenge clients’ thinking on their most significant issues.
- An MBA, CPA, CFA or equivalent qualification would be an asset.
- Strong financial and operational knowledge, with exceptional critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to contribute to and lead working sessions with client teams.
- Strong business acumen, including a solid understanding of the financial and operational impacts of decisions.
- Ability to collaborate and quickly build effective working relationships.
- Understanding of program or project management; no formal project certification is required, although PMP or another certification would be considered an asset.
- Experience working with senior management and/or managing multiple stakeholders.
- Previous experience in a transaction, cost optimization, operational restructuring, turnaround or operational improvement context would be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will have
- A hungry, humble and smart mindset. Cultural fit is paramount: we enjoy working with people who work hard and are committed to continuous learning and development throughout their careers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with all levels of management.
- Ability to develop and present new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions.
- A demonstrated track record in business development activities and an established network of relevant contacts.
- A self-starter who thrives in an adaptable, fast-paced transaction environment requiring an excellent work ethic and teamwork.
- A creative problem solver with the ability to challenge the status quo through in-depth data analysis.
- Comfort working in an environment where information may be incomplete, with the ability to develop informed, fact-supported assumptions when necessary, document them rigorously and communicate them clearly.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team while demonstrating initiative.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and effective organizational skills.
- A high level of personal and professional integrity.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Excellent ability to work in both French and English, verbally and in writing.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
