Position Overview
This position is responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of environmental management programs for Major Projects in accordance with the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental management.
In this role, you will:
- Leads cross-functional environmental teams to deliver end-to-end environmental management for major projects, leveraging internal expertise and external consultants.
- Designs and optimizes environmental programs while advising leadership on risk mitigation and integrating best-in-class systems and processes.
- Drives corporate environmental governance by ensuring compliance, conducting project reviews, and aligning with FortisBC standards and industry best practices.
- Manages environmental budgets and reporting, providing clear, data-driven insights to senior and executive leadership.
- Builds strategic stakeholder partnerships with project teams, regulators, Indigenous communities, and industry groups while monitoring and advising on evolving environmental regulations.
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s in environmental science/engineering (or related) with a recognized professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag/QEP).
- 7+ years of major project experience with proven ability to lead teams and drive strategic environmental initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of environmental management, with the ability to translate policy into practical programs and ensure compliance with major project regulations.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate teams, and align initiatives with business strategy to drive results and achieve organizational goals.
- Demonstrated success managing complex projects, budgets, and competing priorities while delivering on time and within scope.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills with a track record of building strong stakeholder relationships and leveraging technology to achieve outcomes.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
