Saburo Kitchen – Downtown Winnipeg / Hargrave Street Market

Saburo Kitchen is looking for an experienced and reliable Sushi Chef to join our team in Downtown Winnipeg.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of 2 years of professional sushi preparation experience who takes pride in quality, presentation, cleanliness, and consistency.

Responsibilities

- Prepare sushi, sashimi, rolls, nigiri, and other Japanese dishes according to established standards

- Prepare and handle fish, seafood, rice, vegetables, and other ingredients

- Demonstrate strong knife skills and proper food preparation techniques

- Ensure consistent quality, portioning, taste, and presentation

- Prepare ingredients and maintain an organized workstation throughout service

- Follow proper food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures

- Assist with inventory, stocking, and proper storage of ingredients

- Work efficiently during busy periods while maintaining quality standards

- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and support the team as needed

- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment

Qualifications

- Minimum 2 years of professional sushi chef experience required

- Strong sushi preparation and knife skills

- Knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients, and sushi techniques

- Experience handling and preparing fish and seafood

- Strong attention to detail and presentation

- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking

- Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills

- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

- Food safety certification is an asset
