Join Our Team!

Starsky is looking for an experienced and passionate Cheese Manager to lead our Cheese Department. If you have a strong background in specialty foods, team leadership, customer service, and retail operations, we'd love to hear from you. This is for our Mississauga East location located at 2040 Dundas Street East.

As the Cheese Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department, including sales performance, inventory management, merchandising, staff supervision, customer service, and product quality. You will play a key role in delivering an exceptional shopping experience while ensuring the department operates efficiently and profitably.

What You'll Do

Department Leadership & Operations

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Cheese Department.
  • Open and close the department as required.
  • Supervise, coach, and support department employees.
  • Create weekly staff schedules and monitor attendance.
  • Assist with hiring, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and health and safety regulations.

Inventory & Purchasing

  • Manage inventory levels and product rotation.
  • Order products and negotiate with vendors and suppliers.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, pricing, and expiry dates.
  • Receive and inspect deliveries and maintain proper stock levels.
  • Collaborate with other locations regarding pricing and product performance.

Sales & Merchandising

  • Analyze sales and profitability reports to drive department performance.
  • Recommend products for promotional flyers and special events.
  • Merchandise products according to company standards.
  • Ensure products are properly labeled and attractively displayed.
  • Participate in product sampling, demonstrations, and suggestive selling initiatives.
  • Share best practices and sales insights with other locations.

Customer Experience

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve concerns professionally.
  • Assist customers with product recommendations and pairing suggestions.
  • Build strong relationships with customers through personalized service.

Product Knowledge & Food Preparation

  • Maintain extensive knowledge of cheese varieties, ingredients, and product offerings.
  • Operate department equipment, including slicers, vacuum sealers, and other preparation equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained, cleaned, and sanitized.
  • Assist with serving, packaging, stocking, and replenishing products as needed.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous grocery retail experience required, within a Cheese department.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Passion for food, specialty cheese products, and customer service.
  • Flexible availability including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the shift.

  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments and safely operate department equipment.
