We are currently seeking compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Child & Youth Workers to join our Day Support Team in Norfolk County.

Position Summary

As a Day Shift Child & Youth Worker, you will provide direct support to children and youth with emotional, behavioural, developmental, and complex care needs within a structured, therapeutic home environment. You will play an essential role in promoting independence, teaching life skills, supporting daily routines, and fostering positive relationships while ensuring the safety and well-being of each resident.

Applicants must be available to work a combination of days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care, supervision, and emotional support to children and youth.
  • Implement individualized care plans, behaviour support strategies, and life-skills programming.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed home environment.
  • Support daily routines including personal hygiene, meals, household responsibilities, recreation, appointments, and community outings.
  • Administer and document medication dispensation in accordance with agency policies and physician directives (where applicable).
  • Safely transport youth to school, medical appointments, recreational activities, family visits, and community programming using your own reliable vehicle.
  • Teach and model independent living, social, and coping skills.
  • Use positive behaviour management and crisis intervention techniques when required.
  • Complete accurate documentation, medication records, incident reports, and shift notes.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, schools, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
  • Participate in team meetings, ongoing training, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with Home and Haven policies, Quality Assurance Measures (QAM), and all applicable legislation.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Child & Youth Care, Developmental Services, Social Work, Behavioural Science, Community & Justice Services, Social Service Worker, Psychology, or a related field OR equivalent experience supporting children and youth with complex needs.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR certification.
  • Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification (or willingness to obtain during orientation).
  • Current and clear Broad Record Police Check and CPIN.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driver's abstract.
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle with valid automobile insurance for work-related transportation.
  • Strong communication, documentation, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children and youth with autism, developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, or trauma.
  • Experience administering medications and maintaining medication documentation.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and behaviour management strategies.
