Full job description

Job Summary
This is a PART-TIME position offering up to five 4-hour shifts per week (20 hrs/wk). The hours are ideal for a parent with school-aged children wanting to be available for school drop-off and pick-up. Or for someone seeking a semi-retired lifestyle.

Applicants must already reside within the community/area. Please do not apply if you would need to relocate to accept this position (in Errington, BC on Vancouver Island).

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated and energetic Community Support Worker to provide high-quality, one-to-one support during community outings for two young adults with global developmental delays. Outings take place in a variety of community settings, ranging from Nanaimo to Qualicum Beach. Both individuals are non-verbal and require full assistance with all aspects of personal care. Experience with alternative or augmentative communication systems is an asset but training will be provided.

The ideal candidate is patient, empathetic, energetic and committed to supporting independence, dignity, and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and sufficient physical fitness to participate in moderate physical activities during outings.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support during community outings
  • Promote independence, safety, and inclusion
  • Participate in and support moderate physical activities
  • Communicate respectfully using appropriate strategies

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Reliable personal 4-door vehicle
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • Criminal record check
  • Driver's abstract
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred)
  • Energetic and physically fit for moderate physical activity

Schedule:

  • Up to five 4-hour shifts currently available per week
  • Approximately 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
