Full job description

Clinique juridique Roy McMurtry Legal Clinic is a not‑for‑profit community legal clinic in Cornwall that is committed to access to justice for low‑income individuals living in SD&G. We value collaboration, respect, equity, and client‑centred services.

We are seeking a reliable, organized Legal & Client Services Assistant team member to support lawyers and paralegals with file management and client intake, and to provide occasional front‑desk coverage. Bilingualism in English and French is required.

Key duties

  • Provide file support to lawyers and paralegals (opening/closing files, maintaining file integrity)
  • Use practice management software: data entry, updating matters, tracking deadlines
  • Type and prepare letters, intake forms, and routine correspondence
  • Receive, scan, upload, and properly file incoming documents and client materials
  • Assist clients with completing simple forms
  • Serve as backup receptionist: answer phones, greet clients, schedule appointments
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow clinic policies and legal recordkeeping standards

Qualifications & skills

  • Previous experience as a legal assistant, administrative staff, or in client services (experience in a legal clinic or community organization an asset)
  • Bilingual in English and French — strong oral and written skills in both
  • Familiarity with practice management software (experience with CIMS is an asset)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; accurate document preparation
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple files
  • Comfortable working with vulnerable and low‑income clients; compassionate, patient, and professional
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common office equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; reliable and punctual

  • Starting salary: $53,075.41 (37.5 hours per week)
