CASUAL SUPPORT WORKER(s)

Family Support and Respite Program, Fort McMurray

(3 casual positions available)

About the position:

McMan’s Family Support and Respite Program in Fort McMurray is seeking to recruit dedicated casual support workers to provide direct care, support and guidance to children 4 - 17 years old with physical and developmental disabilities, mental health disorders and some complex behaviours who are in the Family Support and Respite program.

Responsibilities will include fostering community relationships, facilitating recreation and leisure, and care and safety of the children. The successful candidate will work effectively as part of a team that collaborates with the child, the family and their support network to assist the family in achieving their goals. Please note there maybe dogs/ cats in clients’ homes.

Hours: Casual employment with various shifts available on weekdays, evenings, after-school hours, school holidays, and weekends. Applicants must be available on weekends.

Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta.

What you’ll do:

· Teach, model and reinforce appropriate social and living skills within the program, community and family home

· Act as a strong advocate for individuals in the community

· Work effectively as a team with the individuals and their support team to help achieve their goals

· Complete daily documentation

· Use evidence-based strategy to help develop skills and manage behaviors

· Participate in on-going program development

· Must be willing to take clients swimming

What you bring:

· Completion of a High School Diploma. Please note that applicants with a degree or diploma in Social Work from a university accredited by the Alberta College of Social Workers are required to be registered with the College (RSW) before starting or obtain registration within three months of hire.

· One (1) year directly related experience working with youth and families. Equivalencies may be considered.

· Experience working with children with disabilities and behaviour management.

· Security Clearance Check; including the Vulnerable Persons Sector Check (from within the last 6 months).

· Children Services Intervention Record Check (from within the last 6 months).

· Emergency First Aid-Level C CPR + AED.

· Valid Class 5 driver's license, reliable vehicle, abstract and auto insurance (minimum $2 million coverage) are required.

· Experience working with working with children with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviour.

· Ability to implement approved restrictive practices.

· Ability to do or assist with personal care.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Computer/Word processing skills.

· Desire to see individuals succeed.

Rate of Pay: $22.58 - $24.67 per hour, depending on experience
