ALOC advances and protects the professional and collective interests of its membership through principled advocacy, collective bargaining, and labour relations representation.

ALOC is seeking a skilled and experienced labour relations professional to join our team in a newly posted vacancy.

Position Summary

The Manager, Labour Relations provides expert guidance on all labour relations matters for ALOC. This is a senior individual contributor role leading complex grievance and representation work, supporting collective bargaining, and serving as a trusted advisor. The role operates within a member-driven governance structure and works closely with ALOC’s elected full-time President and volunteer Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities

Labour Relations & Strategic Advisory

- Provide expert interpretation and application of the Framework Agreement, Collective Agreement, relevant legislation, case law, and OPS/MAG policies.

- Identify emerging labour relations trends and risks, and provide advice to the President and Board.

- Ensure a consistent and principled approach to labour relations aligned with ALOC’s mandate.

Member Advocacy & Representation

- Lead grievance processes, including mediation, arbitration, and complex or precedent-setting matters.

- Represent members in disciplinary, investigatory, and accommodation related meetings.

- Provide expert advice and representation on issues involving equity, accessibility, discrimination, harassment, and accommodation.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for members seeking advice on workplace and labour relations issues, providing guidance on complex and sensitive matters.

- Maintain and analyze grievance data to identify trends and inform member advocacy.

Collective Bargaining Support

- Support collective bargaining through research, analysis, and proposal development.

- Monitor labour relations and bargaining trends to inform strategy and priorities.

- Prepare clear and accessible communications for members regarding bargaining developments.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

- Represent ALOC in interactions with members, MAG/TBS, and other stakeholders.

- Build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders.

- Lead member engagement initiatives, including meetings, presentations, and direct outreach.

- Deliver presentations and lead discussions with members on workplace and labour relations issues, including seminars and town halls.

- Participate in member committee meetings, providing advice and subject-matter expertise on labour relations matters.

- Prepare briefing, communications, and other materials to support governance processes and decision-making by the President and Board.

Operations & Reporting

- Maintain accurate grievance and labour relations records and data.

- Support continuous improvement of processes, tools, and systems.

Additional Responsibilities

- Participate in ALOC’s annual conference and key member events.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

- Demonstrated labour relations experience, including grievance handling, arbitration processes, and advocacy.

- Strong knowledge of collective agreement interpretation, labour and employment legislation, and workplace accommodation principles.

- Experience supporting or participating in collective bargaining is an asset.

- Excellent judgment, analytical skills, and ability to manage complex and sensitive matters independently.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.

- Proven ability to build credibility and maintain effective relationships with members, leadership, and external stakeholders.

- Experience in the public sector is an asset.

Compensation

Salary range: $100,000 – $130,000, commensurate with experience.

ALOC offers a competitive total compensation package, including a comprehensive benefits program and flexible work arrangements.
