Job Summary

The Design Technician specializes in designing single family, multi-family, and custom homes, as well as being involved in special projects they present themselves. The position requires a high degree of technical competency in designing floors, wall panels, and roofs while having the skill set to bridge between practical situations in the field, production, and the specific requirements of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Design single-family, multi-family, and custom homes using the various software that Tech-Wood uses.
  • Consult with the Engineer and Engineering Consultants to address certain engineering situations that arise when designing homes.
  • Participate daily in the preparation of engineering designs and layouts.
  • Communicate regularly with all department members through various methods, such as email, meetings, and in-person interactions.
  • Enhance design skills through online training provided by the software companies Tech-Wood uses.
  • Prioritize all incoming work to ensure designs and layouts are completed accurately, efficiently, and within the customer's required timeframe.
  • Interact with Technical Sales Representatives to address specific customer needs for different building types.
  • Interact with Production Manager to provide guidance on production efficiencies available through alternate engineering and design methods.
  • Ensure that all designs are accurate and complete.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Follow the Health and Safety policies, processes, procedures, and instructions efficiently.

Skills:

· Strong knowledge of the engineering of wood trusses, both roof and floors, as well as all Engineered Wood Products (EWP), and wall panels

· Comprehensive knowledge of the building and construction process as it relates to single family, multi-family, light commercial and agriculture wood framed construction.

· Understanding of local building codes and construction practices.

· Demonstrates clear and inclusive communication skills.

· Effective time management and organization skills, with demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

· Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, be able to think critically, and make decisions based on data, previous experience, and industry best practices.

· High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.

· The ability to adapt to changing priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and work under pressure.

Education and Experience:

· Technical diploma or engineering degree.

· A minimum of 2 years’ design experience is preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
