About Valcom
Valcom Antennas is a proudly Canadian manufacturer with over 70 years of experience designing and manufacturing high-performance antennas and communications infrastructure for military, commercial, and government applications. Based in Guelph, Ontario, Valcom specializes in maritime, land, and shipboard communication systems, offering products ranging from low-frequency and AM broadcasting antennas to HF, VHF, UHF, and multiband antenna solutions. We take pride in delivering reliable, mission-critical communications equipment to customers around the world.
As Valcom continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced procurement professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys making things happen.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Purchasing and Logistics Specialist is responsible for ensuring our manufacturing team has the right materials, at the right time, and at the right cost.
This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely enjoys purchasing, sourcing, negotiating, expediting, and solving supply chain challenges. We're looking for someone who takes ownership, builds strong supplier relationships, follows through on commitments, and enjoys the satisfaction of keeping production moving. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, negotiating a better deal, tracking down hard-to-find components, and finding practical solutions to supply chain challenges, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, and develop relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
- Obtain quotations and negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms.
- Issue purchase orders and manage the purchasing process from requisition through delivery.
- Proactively expedite critical materials and resolve supplier delivery issues before they impact production.
- Coordinate domestic and international logistics processes and documentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and work closely with Production to ensure material availability.
- Collaborate with Engineering to source components and identify alternatives when required.
- Resolve supplier quality issues in partnership with Quality and Engineering.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information within NetSuite.
- Monitor supplier performance and identify opportunities for cost savings and improvements.
- Stay informed on market conditions, pricing trends, and supply chain risks.
- Ensure purchased materials are available as planned to meet customer delivery commitments.
- Build long-term supplier partnerships while maintaining a strong commercial focus.
What Success Looks Like
- Ensure production always has the materials required to meet customer commitments.
- Build trusted relationships with suppliers while negotiating competitive pricing and delivery.
- Anticipate supply chain issues before they become production problems.
- Take ownership of purchasing activities from RFQ through delivery.
- Continuously look for opportunities to improve cost, quality, and supplier performance.
- Become a trusted resource for purchasing and logistics across the organization.
- Demonstrate a very high degree of attention to detail.
- This role requires the successful candidate to be on-site.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of purchasing and supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience sourcing technical or engineered products and components.
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven ability to obtain competitive pricing and agreements.
- Experience coordinating domestic and international shipments and documentation.
- Working knowledge of inventory management principles.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline.
- SCMP designation (or working toward one) is considered an asset.
- Experience with aerospace, defence, electronics, or high-tech manufacturing is an asset.
Who You Are
You enjoy the challenge of procurement and take pride in getting things done.
You're naturally curious, persistent, and organized. You don't wait for problems—you anticipate them. You enjoy negotiating with suppliers, tracking down difficult-to-find components, expediting deliveries, and ensuring production has what it needs to succeed.
You build strong supplier relationships but aren't afraid to have difficult conversations when pricing, quality, or delivery expectations aren't being met.
You enjoy being part of a collaborative manufacturing team where your work has a direct impact on customer success.
Most importantly, you're someone who takes ownership. When something needs to happen, people know they can count on you to make it happen.
Why Join Valcom?
- Proudly Canadian-owned company with more than 70 years of success.
- We build products for mission-critical military and communications applications globally.
- Stable, full-time salaried position with long-term career opportunities.
- Employer-paid benefits and pension program.
- Generous paid time off, including summer and winter shutdowns.
- Flexible summer hours with half-day Fridays (June through September).
- Supportive, collaborative team environment where your contributions make a real impact.
- Opportunity to help shape the future of a growing Canadian manufacturer.
Interested?
If you're a purchasing and logistics professional who enjoys the hands-on work of sourcing, negotiating, expediting materials, and coordinating logistics—and you're looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution—we'd love to hear from you.
Valcom Antennas is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and accessible workplace. In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code, accommodations are available throughout the recruitment process upon request.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
