At Suncor, we produce and provide energy.
When you join Suncor, you become part of a company that has built a solid foundation for both business and employee success. We are a place where talented people thrive. As part of our team, you play a vital role in delivering energy we all rely on, and you'll make a meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work.
Are you passionate about environmental management and ready to make a measurable impact in Canada’s energy sector? As an Environmental and Regulatory Advisor (LDAR – Air Emissions), your primary focus will be the management and continuous improvement of leak detection and repair (LDAR) programs for Suncor’s oil sands facilities. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal and provincial air emissions requirements, including requirements related to volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. In addition to the LDAR focus, there will be opportunities to support broader air emissions deliverables, such as emissions inventories, regulatory reporting, stack emissions monitoring, ambient air monitoring, fugitive emissions monitoring, and air dispersion modelling. It’s an opportunity to apply your technical expertise to real-world operational and regulatory challenges while collaborating with a team of experts to help shape the future of Suncor’s environmental performance.
What we offer:
We recognize your contribution and offer a range of rewards and development opportunities designed to support your success. Benefits/perks listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Suncor and the region where you work.
- Strong compensation : we offer competitive compensation, regional-based uplifts, annual bonuses, and long-term financial rewards. We also help you save for your future by offering pension programs, and savings plans with company matching
- Benefits: utilize an employee assistance program and comprehensive company-paid health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family to support your mental, physical, and financial well-being
- Generous time-off : enjoy generous paid vacation time and personal time-off to recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance
- Talent development programs : Internal mobility, succession planning, and employee training and development programs are just a few ways we’re dedicated to your development
Minimum Requirements:
- 6–10 years of relevant work experience, including experience with leak detection and repair (LDAR), air emissions compliance, regulatory reporting, or environmental program management
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, natural sciences, or a related discipline
- Experience with, or strong familiarity with, LDAR programs, including program planning, execution oversight, data review, quality assurance, and corrective action tracking
- Familiarity with oil sands facility operations, including how facility configuration, maintenance activities, and operating conditions can influence fugitive emissions
- Knowledge of federal and provincial air emissions regulatory requirements, including requirements related to volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions
- Ability to work across multiple internal stakeholders, including operations, maintenance, engineering, measurement, production accounting, regulatory, and environmental teams
- Exposure to common facility data systems, such as PiVision and LDAR reporting software Experience in any of the following is an asset: emissions inventory, stack emissions monitoring, ambient air monitoring and or dispersion modelling
Don’t have all the qualifications listed? That’s ok! Apply anyway. We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the management of LDAR programs for oil sands facilities, including planning, implementation oversight, compliance tracking, and continuous improvement of program performance
- Review LDAR and fugitive emissions data to identify compliance risks, data quality issues, emerging trends, and opportunities to reduce VOC emissions
- Ensure LDAR program execution and reporting aligns with applicable federal and provincial requirements
- Coordinate with facility personnel, contractors, operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to support timely leak repair, documentation, and closure of regulatory actions
- Provide technical advice and regulatory support for facility emissions reduction projects, LDAR program improvements, facility approval renewals, and amendments
- Interact with regulators on regulatory issues, program expectations, data quality, and changes to air emissions regulations
- Support the team on air emissions reports for regulatory and stewardship reporting as required
Location and other Key details:
- This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
