THE OPPORTUNITY
Maan Farms is a third-generation farm and agritourism destination in Abbotsford. Every fall, Halloween Fright Festival combines haunted attractions, food and live entertainment across a busy outdoor event site.
We are hiring a Live Event Technician to build, test and operate the technical system behind four outdoor shows. You will own the daily readiness of audio, wireless microphones, playback, lighting, fog and show-control equipment.
This is not a general farm-maintenance job and it is not a cast-management role. You will work day to day with the Lead Stage Manager, while Maan Farms operations handles site infrastructure and any regulated electrical work. Your job is to make the approved show package dependable, catch failures before guests arrive and solve live technical problems calmly.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating live audio, playback or show-control equipment.
- Working knowledge of wireless microphones and basic RF coordination.
- Familiarity with stage lighting and DMX; experience with fog or atmospheric effects is useful.
- Safe, organized cable, battery, charging and equipment-management habits.
- The ability to troubleshoot under time pressure and explain the problem clearly to non-technicians.
- Reliable transportation to Maan Farms and strong evening/weekend availability through Halloween.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
A formal degree is not required. Theatre, concerts, festivals, attractions, houses of worship, hotels, schools, film/TV and corporate AV can all provide relevant experience.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Before full dress rehearsal, every stage has an accepted power interface, signal path, playback method, lighting state, microphone plan and weather-protection setup. Equipment is labelled, tested and stored consistently, and critical items have a practical backup.
During the run, performers begin with working equipment, cues are reliable, faults are either restored quickly or removed safely, and the technical close leaves every system ready for the next operating night. A trained backup can follow your documentation if you are unavailable.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Audit the show requirements and create a practical equipment, patch, RF, power-interface and control plan.
- Set up, program, test and operate audio playback, wireless microphones, lighting, fog and related show equipment.
- Run pre-show checks at full operating distance and under realistic crowd, weather and radio conditions.
- Monitor live cues and troubleshoot signal, battery, cable, playback and device failures.
- Maintain spares, charging, labelling, weather protection, inventory and nightly technical reset.
- Document the system and train one backup operator before opening.
THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This is outdoor Halloween entertainment on a working farm. Nights can be rainy, cold, loud and foggy. The work includes moving production equipment, handling cables, using ladders safely and working on your feet across multiple show areas. We will discuss any practical accommodation needs during the hiring process.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through Indeed with your resume, your availability through Halloween, and a short note describing one live system you personally set up or operated. Tell us what equipment you used and what went wrong that you had to solve. No formal cover letter is required. If this PDF was sent to you directly, reply to the person who shared it.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 60-minute paid practical at Maan Farms using a simplified show setup. It is not a free event shift.
Applications are reviewed as they arrive. The role remains open until filled.
Maan Farms welcomes applicants from different professional paths. If you need an accommodation during the hiring process, tell us what would help.
Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
