Who We Are
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) offers a world-class education for approximately 35,000 students in 87 schools. Spanning over 7,000 square kilometers, across diverse rural and urban communities in southeastern Ontario, KPR serves the Municipality of Clarington, Northumberland and Peterborough Counties, and City of Quinte West/Murray Ward.
The Board is situated on the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg people, serving three vibrant Indigenous communities which include Alderville First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation.

Qualifications Required
Education & Experience:
- Completed bachelors degree in Indigenous Education or Social Work with specialization in Indigenous studies or equivalent education and/or experience.
- Minimum (4) years extensive experience deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities.
- Native Counsellor Training Certificate Program offered through the Native Education Counsellors Association is an asset.
- Indigenous lived experience is an asset.
Specialized Skills:
- Awareness and understanding of First Nation, Métis and Inuit perspective, culture, knowledge and history.
- Knowledge of current political, cultural, and social awareness of issues impacting Indigenous youth.
- Knowledge of community and social service agencies that serve Indigenous families
- Valid Ontario Drivers license and access to a vehicle.
- Knowledge of computer applications.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Proven experience with behaviour management techniques and strategies, and the implementation of behaviour plans and or safety plans.
- Knowledge of a variety of computer applications, including Virtual Video Conferencing.
- A commitment to service excellence.
Reports to: Indigenous Student Success Coordinator & Principal of Program: Indigenous Education
Main Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement programming for individual Indigenous students to help support cultural connection.
- Responding to issues affecting the social, emotional, intellectual, cultural and physical well-being of Indigenous students.
- Support student achievement for Indigenous students, by supporting cultural programming for individual students.
- Collaborate with the Principal of Indigenous Education, Indigenous Education Department members, school staff, and other board personnel to support Indigenous student success.
- Promote a sense of belonging and increase equitable outcomes for Indigenous students by identifying and addressing barriers to learning, engagement, success and well-being.
- Build positive relationships with Indigenous students by identifying solutions for Indigenous student learning, engagement, success, and well-being.
- Support Indigenous students and families through a culturally relevant lens.
- Regularly meet with assigned students in various schools across the system for one to one or small group sessions to support well-being, academic and cultural needs.
- Plan and implement programming for individual Indigenous students to help support cultural connection.
- Maintain accurate notes to build and maintain profiles for each individual assigned Indigenous student throughout the year to track and monitor student achievement and well-being.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal of Program: Indigenous Education and or Superintendent of Education: Indigenous Education.

Working Conditions:
- Various locations, including Virtual.

A police records check, with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Pardoned Sexual Offenders Database Search, dated within 6 months prior to the date of hire, is a requirement for employment with this Board. Please note that there have been reports that it has taken some candidates up to 6 weeks to obtain a police check.
