Full job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Career Services Coordinator is responsible for providing career and employment counselling, facilitating and promoting student placement all in order to secure employment for students/alumni.

SCOPE: Career Services Coordinator reports directly to the Campus Manager and is responsible for facilitating student placement and employment initiatives; providing career counselling to students/alumni; identifying and fostering placement and employment opportunities; securing funding for employment activities and programs; and administering and monitoring student/alumni employment programs. Providing adequate services will result in increased placement and employment opportunities which will have a significant impact on the overall satisfaction and well-being of Oxford College’s students and alumni.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists students with job preparation and job search activities

  • Interview students/alumni in order to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals
  • Identify barriers to employment and assist students/alumni with such matters as job readiness, skills, job search strategies, writing résumés and preparing for job interviews
  • Provide career education and counselling to students/alumni
  • Administer and interpret tests designed to determine the interests, aptitudes and abilities of students/alumni
  • Assess the need for assistance such as financial aid or further vocational training and refer students/alumni to the appropriate services
  • Provide information on maintaining a job or moving within an organization, dealing with job dissatisfaction or making a mid-career change
  • Gather and maintain labour market information for students/alumni regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements and other occupational information
  • Promote Oxford College’s Career Resource Centre to community groups and agencies, business and industry, and to other organizations involved in providing career planning resources and/or employment opportunities

Identify employment/placement opportunities for students/alumni

  • Identify current and prospective staffing requirements for local businesses and organizations
  • Liaise with relevant employers in obtaining job placements.
  • Identify current and potential staffing requirements with governments and industries
  • Maintain strong contracts and liaise with businesses and industries concerning current and upcoming employment opportunities
  • Prepare and post notices and advertisements
  • Advise students/alumni on employment requirements and on terms and conditions of employment
  • Review candidate inventories and contact students/alumni and potential applicants to arrange interviews, transfers, redeployment and placement
  • Supervise personnel clerks performing related filing and record-keeping duties

Facilitate local employment for major industry

  • Maintain a database of students/alumni interested in employment with industry partners
  • Be familiar with industry employment legal and training requirements
  • Be familiar with employment agreements with industry
  • Provide advice to students/alumni on industry employment requirements
  • Arrange for interviews of students/alumni
  • Maintain statistics and records on employment with industry partners

Complete administrative functions to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Career Resource Centre

  • Maintain confidential records and statistics on student/alumni employment
  • Report to Administration concerning employment records and statistics
  • Submit required reports concerning industry, funding agencies and others
  • Host regular in campus workshops related to career services
  • Assist with the office operation
  • Attend career fairs and promote Oxford College’s students/alumni for career and job opportunities (travelling may be required)
  • Attend staff and other meetings as required.
  • Organize and facilitate program advisory committee meetings for all individual programs.
  • Prepare and administer student exit surveys upon completion of program
  • Upon graduation, obtain student testimonials with consent to publish
  • Plan and manage graduation and/or other events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
