Job Description:

Marcon Metalfab is seeking an innovative Structural Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our Product Development & Innovation team in Delta, BC.

Working alongside our Lead Engineer, Innovation Center and a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the research, development, testing, and commercialization of advanced structural products for bridges and transportation infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop new technologies that will shape the future direction of our company and the markets we serve.

The ideal candidate is curious, hands-on, and motivated by solving challenging engineering problems. You enjoy taking ideas from concept through testing and manufacturing while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and business development teams to bring innovative products to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the research, design, development, and testing of new structural products, bridge components, and seismic technologies.
  • Independently manage assigned product development initiatives under the guidance of senior engineering leadership.
  • Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations in accordance with CSA S6, CSA S16, applicable building codes, and other relevant standards.
  • Design and evaluate bridge components, seismic devices, bearings, expansion joints, and other specialized structural systems.
  • Assist with planning and executing laboratory and field testing programs, evaluating performance, and refining product designs.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to develop practical, efficient, and manufacturable engineering solutions.
  • Support Business Development by providing technical expertise during customer meetings, presentations, product demonstrations, and market development initiatives.
  • Assist with product approvals, certifications, technical documentation, and market entry into new jurisdictions.
  • Research emerging technologies, design practices, and industry trends to support ongoing innovation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure new products meet technical, manufacturing, and commercial objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles, particularly bridge engineering and seismic design.
  • Demonstrated interest in research, innovation, and new product development.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned projects while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how engineering decisions impact product success, manufacturing, and customer value.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Organized, proactive, and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and the United States as required.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Four to eight years of progressively responsible structural engineering experience.
  • Experience in bridge design, bridge structural components, seismic design, and general structural engineering.
  • Experience working within or closely supporting a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience contributing to research and development, product innovation, or engineered product design is considered an asset.
  • Experience with structural analysis software and finite element analysis is preferred.
