The Winnipeg Art Gallery – Qaumajuq (WAG-Qaumajuq) is one of Canada’s leading visual art museums and home to the world’s largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art. Job Summary
The Audio Visual (A/V) Technician provides technical support for internal and external events at WAG-Qaumajuq. Reporting to the Head of Museum Services & Building Operations, this role is responsible for setting up, operating, and striking A/V equipment for a variety of programs, including film screenings, concerts, theatre productions, and conferences. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under time constraints in a dynamic environment.

Hours of Work: Casual, as scheduled for events

Responsibilities

  • Set up and strike A/V equipment for events such as film screenings, concerts, theater productions, and conferences.
  • Operate lighting and audio consoles in a theater environment.
  • Focus stage lighting and program lighting cues.
  • Mix audio for various musical styles; configure PA systems and audio boards for events throughout the building.
  • Operate Zoom calls for hybrid events.
  • Uphold equity and anti-racism principles through ongoing education, bias awareness, and application of organizational policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Technical college or vocational diploma in Broadcast/Sound Engineering or Theatre/Stage Craft.
  • Strong knowledge of live sound reinforcement (microphone placement, PA setup, audio mixing).
  • Ability to multitask between multiple elements of a live show.
  • Understanding of livestreaming and online meeting software such as OBS and Zoom.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs speakers.
  • Ability to operate under rigid time constraints.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.

Assets:

  • Bilingual (English/French or English/Inuktitut).
  • First Aid Certification.
